The Master of Engineering (MEng) in mechanical engineering program emphasizes applied design and stresses the development of oral, visual, and written communication skills in mechanical engineering to enable individuals to advance in their careers. The program offers fundamental as well as design-oriented specialty coursework, applied mathematics, and engineering management. You may concentrate your studies in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or turbomachinery engineering for the MEng degree by selecting appropriate courses available.

Health Sciences
The Health Sciences program prepares you for professional or graduate study in a range of health-related fields such as occupational therapy, speech pathology, or public health. The program combines a strong science foundation with a variety of electives that allow you to explore different health-related topics. If you’re interested in a career in health care but aren’t sure which area to pursue, the Health Sciences program may be a good fit for you. Health Sciences is also available as a minor.

Health care is the fastest-growing industry in the U.S. economy. Our Health Sciences program provides a broad overview of the health care system, with a firm foundation in the sciences and electives that expose you to a variety of health-related topics. In addition to fulfilling prerequisites for graduate programs, the curriculum allows you to explore different areas of health care and discover the best fit for your interests and skills.

The program includes core courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. The flexible curriculum allows you to choose from electives that explore advanced areas of science and medicine and subjects such as human nutrition, organ and tissue donation, public health, and gerontology. You can also minor in areas such as psychology or business to increase your career versatility.

The Master of Science (MS) in environmental engineering program is a research-oriented program that focuses on the advancement of the fundamental body of knowledge in environmental engineering while also fostering the development of skills in design and analysis. This program lets you study an area of interest as part of a graduate thesis. Work towards solving a contemporary problem and become a technical expert. This program is also ideal for those who endeavor to eventually pursue their doctoral degree in an area within engineering.

Do you have an interest in Biology, the environment, natural science, education, or allied health care fields and want flexibility to explore a double major or minor? The BA in Biology is designed for you!
The BA degree in biology is designed to offer students a broad background in the biological sciences permitting more free electives than the BS program. Biology electives allow you to pursue a variety of specific interests that may lead to positions in government, industry, environmental fields, teaching, and health care professions. The BA degree may be combined with education courses for certification for teaching in the public schools.

Double Bass

At The Hartt School, you will join a tight-knit community of artists who are perfecting their craft. Through personal attention and mentorship from Hartt’s accomplished faculty members, you will develop innovative ideas and career ready skills. Learn about the double bass program at Hartt, including undergraduate and graduate admission and audition requirements and faculty information.

Double bass activities include

• Weekly private lessons (technical and musical development of traditional and contemporary techniques and repertoire, and orchestral music)
• Orchestra Repertoire Class (excerpts and the audition process)
• Scales/Technique Class (compliments the work done in private lessons on achieving technical mastery)
• Repertoire Class (explores all aspects of the double bass literature and history, by listening to recordings, looking at scores, and discussing various topics)

Flute
To enrich pedagogy skills, the Hartt flute studio uses a mentoring system that pairs an undergraduate student with a graduate flutist.  They meet together for a minimum of two hours a week to work in duets, resolve any problems revealed in Techniques Class, and for the chance to do research and get feedback from a partner. This gives the graduate students a chance to develop and refine their teaching techniques before leaving school, while the undergraduates benefit from the additional “one-on-one” help in between lessons and get to know fellow flute students more quickly.

Pairs rotate every 4 weeks so everyone has the opportunity to meet and work together, creating a true collaborative atmosphere in the flute studio. The students are collegial and supportive, each gaining more from these additional opportunities to participate with their peers than they would on their own.
