Every day, the United States continues to partner with other countries to develop industry with various non-English speaking nations at home and abroad. Because of this, individuals working in the areas of trade, tourism, media and science are discovering the need to learn a second language as the world continues building its global market place. TROY's SLI program is a 31- to 33-hour program—offered in thesis and non-thesis track options—that focuses on preparing domestic and international students for future careers in second language teaching.

• Broadcast two live, award-winning, 30-minute news programs every class day for TROY TrojanVision, Troy University’s television station.

• Build competitive advertising campaigns for clients.

The interdisciplinary studies program lets you build your degree program based on your individual career goals and skill set. Within this program, you’ll complete your general studies courses and select three academic minors that will hone your skills across a broad spectrum of topics and specializations. This course load will be rounded off with any unrestricted electives you choose to complete the minimum 120 hours course requirement. The biology program found within TROY’s College of Arts and Sciences stands at the core of the University’s biological and environmental sciences department. This program is one of the University’s most popular science-related majors with more students enrolled than any of the department’s other concentrations, programs or majors. This program’s popularity is attributed to the versatility of the program and the wide array of departmental courses offered to students. The Biology/Biomedical Sciences program prepares students for careers in the health professions and biotechnology. It is an integral part of the pre-professional program. Students who receive a bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biomedical Sciences are well prepared to enter graduate or professional school, begin careers as laboratory technicians or seek employment in the biotechnology industry. 

Students complete a wide variety of courses aimed at providing a thorough understanding of the development, structure, and organization of the cell and are exposed to a wide variety of modern approaches to analyze genetic, molecular, and cellular events.

Specialized courses in Microbial Ecology Applied Genetics, Biochemistry, and Immunology complement the offerings in Biomedical Sciences. The inclusion of lab-based investigations in these courses serves to enhance the students' exposure to state of the art approaches to solving complex problems in biological systems.

Students who choose the Biology/Biomedical Sciences program will have many opportunities for growth outside the classroom. Many research opportunities are available for students to conduct research with faculty mentors using current technology and equipment. Additionally, students are encouraged to join the Department's three student organizations, including: Beta Beta Beta (National Biological Honor Society), The Environmental Club, and Alpha Epsilon Delta (Health Professions Honor Society).

TROY’s hospitality management program provides you with courses designed to give you an overview of the industry as well as hands-on learning opportunities. For example, in TROY’s hotel management course, you’ll shadow different areas of local hotels to experience what happens within different departments, and in your restaurant management course, you’ll work in groups to create a restaurant concept that looks at everything from layout and décor to menu design and menu development.

Your course work will also prepare you to work with diverse groups, strengthen your written and oral communication skills as well as your organizational and leadership skills. The Bachelor of Science degree in graphic design, is intended for those students who are interested in pursuing a career or educational advancement in the area of graphic design. The BS degree in graphic design at TROY is widely considered to be one of the most innovative programs of study within the discipline due to the hybrid nature and ‘real-world’ approach to instruction. Graphic designers are trained to be responsible for visual communications in a world that cannot seem to get enough of it. A bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in financial economics is designed for students with an interest in banking. Students will receive a strong educational foundation in economics with a particular emphasis in modern finance. Topics such as financial statement analysis, risk and return and time value of money will complement the core theories of economics. Financial economics students will be well prepared for applications such as asset valuation, capital budgeting, long-term and short-term financing and investment decisions.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free market and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students with an interest in the free enterprise system will benefit from engagement with the Johnson Center and Troy University’s financial economics program.

Students with a background in financial economics will find employment opportunities within both the private and public sectors. Entry-level positions in the private sector include corporate finance, brokerage firms, financial consulting firms and financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies and mutual funds. Graduates may also find employment within government regulatory agencies such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Reserve System and state banking department.

Students may also choose to pursue a graduate education. An undergraduate degree in economics with a concentration in financial economics is an excellent foundation for graduate study in business, finance, law, public policy or economics.
