The interdisciplinary studies program lets you build your degree program based on your individual career goals and skill set. Within this program, you’ll complete your general studies courses and select three academic minors that will hone your skills across a broad spectrum of topics and specializations. This course load will be rounded off with any unrestricted electives you choose to complete the minimum 120 hours course requirement. A bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in financial economics is designed for students with an interest in banking. Students will receive a strong educational foundation in economics with a particular emphasis in modern finance. Topics such as financial statement analysis, risk and return and time value of money will complement the core theories of economics. Financial economics students will be well prepared for applications such as asset valuation, capital budgeting, long-term and short-term financing and investment decisions.

The Division of Economics and Finance is also home to the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy. The Johnson Center provides a dynamic and rigorous education program focused on the imperatives of free market and individual liberty as well as relevant policy research on current and local issues. Students with an interest in the free enterprise system will benefit from engagement with the Johnson Center and Troy University’s financial economics program.

Students with a background in financial economics will find employment opportunities within both the private and public sectors. Entry-level positions in the private sector include corporate finance, brokerage firms, financial consulting firms and financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies and mutual funds. Graduates may also find employment within government regulatory agencies such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Reserve System and state banking department.

Students may also choose to pursue a graduate education. An undergraduate degree in economics with a concentration in financial economics is an excellent foundation for graduate study in business, finance, law, public policy or economics.

Environmental Science is the field of study that examines questions addressing global warming and biodiversity that guides policy makers into decisions that ensure a sustainable future. The undergraduate environmental science program at Troy University provides students with an understanding of critical environmental issues and prepares them for careers in the environmental field. Troy University's environmental science program faculty find a balance between teaching and research. Program faculty bring real-world experience to the classroom through their research, advisory, and consultation activities.

Led by skilled and knowledgeable faculty members, your courses within TROY’s environmental science program will ready you for a career that helps address the concerns our world is facing. Your classes will immerse you in the field of science starting with cell structure and going all the way to the ever-complex human anatomy. As you progress within your program, you’ll learn about ecology, plant forms and functions, insects, birds and freshwater ecosystems.

Through your journey toward your degree, you will study how the Earth’s abiotic and biotic systems work with an emphasis on how human activity influences these systems and the methods of control for air, water, land and noise pollution. While you pursue your degree, you will have amazing opportunities to apply that knowledge in actual hands-on labs and experiments.

In TROY’s general music program, you will take classes taught by skilled and knowledgeable faculty members who have a passion for music and guiding you toward success. Within your courses, you will learn about music traditions from around the globe and how those traditions are entwined with the human experience. While some courses will help you trace the development of Western music from ancient worlds all the way to the contemporary periods, others will teach you the fundamentals of music, including rhythm and meter, note names, intervals, scales and more.

As a general music major, you’ll have access to incredible opportunities that allow you to participate in hands-on courses that will give you the skills for keyboard musicianship and sight reading, sight singing, improvisation techniques, harmonization and chorale playing. You will also participate in classes focusing on the applications of the microcomputer, music teaching, and the management, planning and record-keeping tasks of the music educator.

The Master of Science Graduate Program in Environmental and Biological Sciences is designed to broaden the student's perspective and provide skills and knowledge for understanding and solving problems in the environmental and biological sciences. The program teaches students the direct and indirect economic, social, and political contributions of the environmental and biological sciences. The program underscores the interdisciplinary and cooperative nature of environmental and biological issues. This program teaches students how to manage conflicts and emphasizes the importance of effectively communicating with the private and public sectors, regulatory agencies, interest groups, and communities. The Program objectives are listed below:

• To demonstrate the pivotal role of the environmental and biological sciences in understanding and addressing environmental, ecological, medical, agricultural and policy-related issues.
• To promote the professional development of students for entry and advancement in the private and public sectors as scientists, educators, administrators or managers.
• To provide students with the necessary skills for performing research, reviewing and evaluating regulatory guidelines and writing professional documents.
• To foster an understanding and appreciation of the role of values and ethics in research, management and institutional performance.
• To strengthen the academic foundations of students seeking entry into professional schools and into doctoral programs at graduate schools.
• To provide teachers with opportunities for advancement and to broaden and update their knowledge in order to enrich the classroom experience of their students.

The Biology/Biomedical Sciences program prepares students for careers in the health professions and biotechnology. It is an integral part of the pre-professional program. Students who receive a bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biomedical Sciences are well prepared to enter graduate or professional school, begin careers as laboratory technicians or seek employment in the biotechnology industry. 

Students complete a wide variety of courses aimed at providing a thorough understanding of the development, structure, and organization of the cell and are exposed to a wide variety of modern approaches to analyze genetic, molecular, and cellular events.

Specialized courses in Microbial Ecology Applied Genetics, Biochemistry, and Immunology complement the offerings in Biomedical Sciences. The inclusion of lab-based investigations in these courses serves to enhance the students' exposure to state of the art approaches to solving complex problems in biological systems.

Students who choose the Biology/Biomedical Sciences program will have many opportunities for growth outside the classroom. Many research opportunities are available for students to conduct research with faculty mentors using current technology and equipment. Additionally, students are encouraged to join the Department's three student organizations, including: Beta Beta Beta (National Biological Honor Society), The Environmental Club, and Alpha Epsilon Delta (Health Professions Honor Society).

The computer science degree program provides students with a curriculum in the key domains of computer science. The program equips students with computer science knowledge and skills while preparing them for careers in computer technology and for advanced study in graduate courses.
