By studying geological sciences, you will study the planet, the processes that change our landscapes, the history of life and the interactions between environment and society. The UD Ancient Greek and Roman Studies Program provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and civilization of Ancient Greece and Rome. As a program of study, Ancient Greek and Roman Studies concerns itself with all aspects of ancient Greek and Roman culture and its influence through the Middle Ages and Renaissance up to the present day. The program focuses not just on Greek and Roman language and literature but also on material culture (art history and archaeology); on economic, political, social and intellectual history; and on philosophy, religion and myth. Unlike most other areas of study, Ancient Greek and Roman Studies is truly interdisciplinary and—as such—provides a unique experience for students with many different interests and intended career paths.

The Nutrition and Dietetics majors is for individuals who enjoy science and who believe that proper nutrition is a key aspect of health and well-being. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are qualified healthcare professionals trained to deliver evidence-based nutrition information and medical nutrition therapy to patients and to the public. The Nutrition and Dietetics major at the University of Delaware is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Completion of a post-undergraduate accredited dietetic internship is the next step toward becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Anthropologists study us. We learn how and why people and their cultures are both similar and different over time and around the world. Anthropologists study people and primates face-to-face and we study past peoples by exploring fossils and digging archaeological sites. We examine the origins of humans as cultural beings; the processes that create particular cultures; and how cultures change as people, things, and ideas move and encounter others. In our globalized world, we ask how the local influences and shapes the regional, national and global, and in turn, how the global affects the local. Every career today requires understanding of other cultures, and how they influence our complicated, rapidly changing, interconnected human experience. There’s no limit to where you can go with that kind of understanding of our world and its peoples.

The B.S. in Applied Mathematics allows students to gain depth in mathematics as well as one of twenty-one areas of application in science and engineering such as Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Physics and Statistics. This degree prepares students planning a career in a field requiring strength in mathematics as well as in an area of application. Students considering a double major in Mathematics and a related area are advised to consider this program.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a program in Actuarial Science leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The major, with courses taught by faculty in the Departments of Economics, Finance, and Mathematical Sciences (among others), provides a strong background in actuarial science, including the satisfaction of all three actuarial science VEE requirements. Students graduating with this degree will be well prepared for the first two actuarial examinations, the foundation of an actuarial career.

From the most recent advances in plant molecular biology to the latest methods for growing and maintaining healthy plants, students in the Plant Science major will incorporate these practices with their evolving knowledge of the plant kingdom. The major offers the flexibility to pursue the areas of plant science that best aligns students with their future goals. Environmental and Resource Economics applies economic principles to the many and varied environmental and natural resource challenges facing our society today and in the future. In this major, you will study how human decisions impact our environment and natural resources, including issues involving land use, water supply, water quality, air quality, agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. Do you have an interest in environmental and resource management, economic analysis, or weighing the costs and benefits of alternative environmental policies? We will provide you with a solid foundation in resource economics, business and the environment, topped with a range of data and analytical specialties.

The Bachelor of Music in Composition emphasizes instruction in musical composition, improvisation and multimedia creative activities. Many students in this major continue on to graduate studies in composition at well-known institutions with the goal of working in higher education or to compose vocationally.

The Composition Studio is a vibrant and highly active group within the University of Delaware’s School of Music. Composition students remain active as performers and are able to participate in all of the school’s ensembles and productions. Diversity in compositional style and philosophy is encouraged, as is interdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation. Close association with the theory and musicology areas, in addition to the performance area, provides for a well-rounded academic education where music composition students can enhance and support their creative work with specialized research and performance.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Management Concentration provides broad coverage of music combined with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. This program provides opportunities designed to prepare students for administrative careers within the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors of the music industry. A 4+1 program option is offered through the Bachelor of Arts in Music Management, which combines the liberal arts music major with a master’s degree in Business Administration completed in the fifth year of study.?
