The data come from everywhere: online transactions, mobile apps, sensors, video-capturing systems, social media and more, and are arriving at a scale of terabytes (or even petabytes). The business analytics major teaches you about the theories and methods of analyzing large volumes of data. You will learn how to leverage data to gain competitive advantages and strategic insights in today’s business world. The major focuses on the following critical skill areas:

The Fine Arts Program at UD—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—combines the best of creative research and hands-on experimentation.  Students have the opportunity to experience printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture, video, photography, animation and drawing. After completing core courses, students have the freedom to choose their own pathway of study that enables them to develop into an active creative force; essentially our students are empowered to impact culture in a meaningful way and positively change the world.

Central to this student-centered approach is our one-on-one advising—all fine art majors and minors work in direct contact with our professionally active faculty through studio and lecture courses. Additionally, students engage with diverse communities through dynamic visiting artist talks, highly regarded study abroad courses, productive internships and frequent field trips to major art centers. Individual or shared studios are available for advanced students.

The management major combines a strong liberal arts foundation with a hands-on professional education that prepares you to think critically, creatively and collaboratively when solutions are needed for challenging problems in business.

Our faculty work hard to help you understand what it takes to be an effective manager. You learn how to be successful when negotiating and resolving conflict with others. In addition, the major gives you flexibility because you can focus on the area of management that’s most relevant to your career goals. You can choose between Business Leadership and Human Resources.

• The Business Leadership track includes courses that focus on leading change in businesses and understanding different approaches to leadership and team dynamics.
• The Human Resources (HR) track includes courses that provide a broad understanding of the functions of HR (such as recruitment, selection and training) as well as how to prepare HR management for the future of business.

Multilingualism and intercultural competence are essential credentials for leadership today in diverse fields. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths: some become teachers, translators or interpreters while others are employed in publishing, broadcasting, government, international travel, financial services or other areas of international business. Opportunities in international marketing, advertising and other communication industries provide further outlets for language skills that our students couple with other expertise acquired in joint or double majors. Some students enter careers with international organizations such as the United Nations, International Red Cross and the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

Health and Wellness with a Nutrition Focus

The Nutrition major is a good fit for those interested in working with individuals to educate them about nutrition and promote a healthy diet. In addition to a foundation in social sciences, chemistry, biology and the science of nutrition, this major allows students to combine the study of nutrition with other academic majors/minors, preparing them to promote health and wellness among individuals and communities

Engage with politics, culture and language

Combine your love of French and your interest in government and political systems in this exciting major offered jointly by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Department of Political Science and International Relations. French language courses will help you acquire the skills necessary to communicate effectively in Francophone settings. Courses in politics, business, literature and civilization will provide you with a thorough understanding of French and Francophone political and cultural environments.

Physiology is the study of how living organisms function under normal conditions and is a foundational component of many careers in the health sciences. The BS in Human Physiology is intended for undergraduate students interested in careers in medicine, biomedical research, industry or other allied health professions for which a comprehensive knowledge of human physiology is required. The curriculum includes core courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics along with extensive upper level courses in human anatomy and physiology. The major is particularly suited for those who plan to continue their studies at the post-baccalaureate level through graduate or professional training. By selecting from a list of recommended electives, students can easily achieve all of the necessary prerequisite requirements for admission into medical and dental schools and be prepared to take the applicable entrance exams. Alternatively, those interested in other careers within the health sciences can choose among a broader list of electives that further enhance their understanding of human health and disease. The curriculum is intentionally demanding with the goal of providing the next generation of leaders in the health sciences with foundational knowledge in human physiological function at the molecular, cellular and organism level.

Chemistry involves the study of solids, liquids, and gases and the transformations they undergo in combination with each other. Chemists engage in observation, analysis and experimentation. They break natural substances down into their components, replicate in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and create substances to fulfill specific needs. Chemical discoveries play an important role in helping us understand the world around us. Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.

The B.A. in Art—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—provides the same foundation in art making through its Core studio courses that B.F.A. students receive along with additional upper level studio courses to further hone the student’s artistic skills. It encourages an interdisciplinary approach with many students earning a minor or second major from departments across the college and university. The B.A. provides an opportunity for students to develop highly personal portfolios that can incorporate art and design with work from other disciplines with very marketable results. The B.A. also reflects developments in Fine Art involving more environmentally and socially engaged art practices, technology or performance-based work, as well as artworks emphasizing academic research.

Spanish is the second-most popular language in the world, spoken by more than 400 million people. A major in Spanish Studies enables students to communicate with people of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds and helps foster understanding between cultures in our global society.
