Peer Mentors

• The peer mentors are accounting and MIS students that serve as liaisons between the department and the students. Peer mentors give guidance to students on topics ranging from major/minor selection and campus organizations to the job search process. You can contact them with a quick question or to develop a long-term mentor/mentee relationship – they are here to make sure you get everything you can out of your college experience.

From the most recent advances in plant molecular biology to the latest methods for growing and maintaining healthy plants, students in the Plant Science major will incorporate these practices with their evolving knowledge of the plant kingdom. The major offers the flexibility to pursue the areas of plant science that best aligns students with their future goals. Exciting careers in sustainable agriculture and ecosystem sciences, agronomic and horticultural crop production systems, plant science research and biotechnology, and crop protection await you.

Physiology is the study of how living organisms function under normal conditions and is a foundational component of many careers in the health sciences. The BS in Human Physiology is intended for undergraduate students interested in careers in medicine, biomedical research, industry or other allied health professions for which a comprehensive knowledge of human physiology is required. The curriculum includes core courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics along with extensive upper level courses in human anatomy and physiology. The major is particularly suited for those who plan to continue their studies at the post-baccalaureate level through graduate or professional training. By selecting from a list of recommended electives, students can easily achieve all of the necessary prerequisite requirements for admission into medical and dental schools and be prepared to take the applicable entrance exams. Alternatively, those interested in other careers within the health sciences can choose among a broader list of electives that further enhance their understanding of human health and disease. The curriculum is intentionally demanding with the goal of providing the next generation of leaders in the health sciences with foundational knowledge in human physiological function at the molecular, cellular and organism level.

The B.S. in Applied Mathematics allows students to gain depth in mathematics as well as one of twenty-one areas of application in science and engineering such as Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Physics and Statistics. This degree prepares students planning a career in a field requiring strength in mathematics as well as in an area of application. Students considering a double major in Mathematics and a related area are advised to consider this program.

There is a critical shortage of qualified middle and high school mathematics teachers in schools in our region and across the nation. Mathematics is an important and challenging subject, and teachers well-trained in mathematics and the teaching of mathematics can make mathematics accessible to all middle and high school students with different needs and abilities. This can be a very fulfilling, emotionally satisfying and financially secure career for motivated students. Both the B.A. and B.S. degree programs in mathematics education lead to teacher certification; the B.S. degree may be more suitable for students who have taken or plan to take many credits in math and science, while the B.A. degree is ideal for students who are interested in achieving breadth in the liberal arts.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Management Concentration provides broad coverage of music combined with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. This program provides opportunities designed to prepare students for administrative careers within the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors of the music industry. A 4+1 program option is offered through the Bachelor of Arts in Music Management, which combines the liberal arts music major with a master’s degree in Business Administration completed in the fifth year of study.?

If you want to help children understand the world around them, there is no better subject to teach than geography. Sharing the beauty and science of our natural landscapes and fascinating details about the diverse cultures around the globe, you can awaken children’s wonder and excitement for the world around them, helping them become engaged global citizens who care about our Earth. During your studies at UD, you will examine the physical properties of the natural environment (water, climate, landforms and vegetation) and the role that human beliefs, activities and decision-making has in shaping the world around us. You will also gain training in teaching and how to best reach and serve students in middle or high school.

Perhaps you’ve taken Latin in high school and discovered that you love playing with words and exploring ancient worlds. Maybe you've been introduced to the language at the university level and really enjoy it. If so, put passion into practice with the Latin Education major at the University of Delaware! The biological sciences curriculum helps students develop an understanding of principles governing biological processes that span a continuum from molecules and cells to organisms and ecosystems. The biology education major develops students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills which are essential for making informed decisions about issues that relate to science, technology, the environment and teaching biology.?
