Women and Gender Studies majors explore the past and current status of women around the world and the formation of gender and its intersections with other relations of power such as sexuality, race, class, nationality, religion, ability and age.

Topics are addressed within the context of a transnational world and from perspectives diverse as history, sociology, political science, linguistics, economics, anthropology, literary and cultural studies, philosophy, science, religion and the arts. The department offers a B.A. degree in Women and Gender Studies with an Honors Degree option and minors in Domestic Violence Prevention and Services (DVPS) and Sexualities and Gender Studies (SGST).  Majors may apply to complete a concentration in Domestic Violence Prevention and Services or in Women in Global Perspective.  In addition, internships are available providing students with the opportunity to integrate what they have learned in the classroom with practical competencies that can only be gained from work experience. Students enrolled in our programs receive frequent customized advisement based on their course of study and career goals.

If you want to help children understand the world around them, there is no better subject to teach than geography. Sharing the beauty and science of our natural landscapes and fascinating details about the diverse cultures around the globe, you can awaken children’s wonder and excitement for the world around them, helping them become engaged global citizens who care about our Earth. During your studies at UD, you will examine the physical properties of the natural environment (water, climate, landforms and vegetation) and the role that human beliefs, activities and decision-making has in shaping the world around us. You will also gain training in teaching and how to best reach and serve students in middle or high school.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Management Concentration provides broad coverage of music combined with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. This program provides opportunities designed to prepare students for administrative careers within the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors of the music industry. A 4+1 program option is offered through the Bachelor of Arts in Music Management, which combines the liberal arts music major with a master’s degree in Business Administration completed in the fifth year of study.?

The UD Visual Communications Program—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—has an outstanding reputation. The VC degree builds on our two-year Core curriculum through a series of courses intended to inspire inquiry in the art of communication design and to impart applicable skills in various design methodologies.

Our program engages students in an educational experience where they learn by doing. In our small classes students have intense studio experiences, exploring their creativity, developing skills, and designing across all media. Through internships, study abroad programs, field trips and visiting artists and designers, our graduates leave school already plugged-in to their career path.

Computers are integral to modern culture and are the primary engine behind much of the world’s economic growth. Moreover, the field continues to evolve at an astonishing pace, making computer science a vibrant discipline.

UD’s computer science curriculum emphasizes software development and computer theory with the goal that students learn how computers are used to solve real-life problems. Students develop excellent programming skills as they build a solid foundation in the theory and practice of computer science and software engineering. The research of the faculty guides upper-level course offerings, and there are ample opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research projects. Students are encouraged to explore how other subject areas impact and are impacted by computer science through a concentration in a related discipline.

We are committed to providing students with access to the most advanced computer technology available and maintaining research laboratories for areas requiring extensive experimental studies. Students also have access to our high-performance clusters for coursework and research in parallel computing, networking, artificial intelligence, and multimedia.

The Nutrition and Medical Sciences major provides students with a strong science foundation focused in biology, physiology, and chemistry, and is particularly designed for those expecting to pursue an advanced degree in graduate school, medical school, dental school, or other health-related professions (e.g. physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy). The core sciences paired with nutrition courses build knowledge about the relationships between biological and chemical processes, nutrition, metabolism and health.

Today's video game developers and publishers aren't just looking for qualified programmers and designers, they need well-balanced experts in cultural awareness, marketing, management, education, communication, law and health. On campus and through study abroad, master the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading, writing – while immersing yourself in the culture of Italy. Participate in our study abroad programs which include winter session in the medieval city of Siena, summer in sunny Sorrento, or a semester program in the capital city of Rome. On campus, join the Circolo Italiano club to meet other Italian language students, brush up on your language skills and partake in numerous cultural activities. Outstanding students in the Italian program are awarded each year with induction into Gamma Kappa Alpha, the national Italian honors society.

We offer an interdisciplinary major with the same name as our college. There has never been a more immediate and pressing need for agriculture and natural resource professionals than now. The field of agriculture and natural resources needs generalists to educate others, and address real-world problems of feeding the world and protecting the planet. With a working farm right on main campus, students have unparalleled access to a 350-acre classroom, where they gain practical experience by actively testing their knowledge in real-world settings. Students regularly engage with faculty from each of the college’s departments for hands-on experiences, research opportunities and connections to communities.

Sociology is the study of social organizations, social change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior in the modern world. The Sociology Education degree offers a liberal arts curriculum that integrates teaching theory and methods with courses focusing on contemporary social issues and problems. Students working toward teaching certification in the social sciences will be able to augment their training in pedagogy with sociological content emphasizing inequality, social justice, law and society, deviance and criminology, social correlates of health and wellbeing and disasters and the environment.
