Have you ever considered how countries navigate global politics, form partnerships or solve global problems? In international relations you will learn about global and comparative politics. You will also learn valuable skills in critical thought, oral and written communication and quantitative reasoning—the very skills most useful to employers in all fields, like law, business and journalism, not just politics.

As an interdisciplinary program, all majors are required to complete five core courses: Introduction to American Politics or Introduction to Global Politics, one economics course, one history course, one geography course and an advanced language course. Beyond the core courses, you will choose one topical concentration in development and political economy, diplomacy and global order, societies and beliefs or U.S. foreign policy and national security, and one regional specialization in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America or the Middle East. International relations can complement your many other interests, a second major or minors and prepares you to engage an increasingly complex world.

From heart-rate monitors and refrigerators to laptops and mobile phones, computerized gadgets are everywhere. More and more of these gadgets are communicating and coordinating through networks to massive cloud computing centers that are distributed around the world.

Not only do computer engineers design computers and digital equipment, but they also design software that runs on the computers and develop algorithms that are implemented by the software.

UD electrical and computer engineering graduates pursue exciting, rewarding, and successful careers. On average, 70–80% of graduates with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering degree choose employment in private industry, government laboratories and agencies, and non-profit research centers. Approximately 15–20% of computer engineering graduates choose to continue their education toward a master’s or Ph.D. degree, and some graduates will opt to attend medical, law, or business school. Students who earn advanced degrees in engineering usually pursue a career in advanced research in industry or academia.

A multilingual brain is more agile and better able to solve problems and conflicts. Language learners demonstrate superior cognitive performance throughout their lives.

Over half of the world’s population is bilingual or multilingual, while only one in five U.S. citizens speaks a language other than English. Knowledge of other languages and cultures gives our graduates a competitive advantage in any career, and is highly valued in international business and professional communities. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths in teaching, entertainment and media, government, travel, financial services or international business. Some students enter careers with international or non-governmental organizations such as the International Red Cross or the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

There is a critical shortage of qualified middle and high school mathematics teachers in schools in our region and across the nation. Mathematics is an important and challenging subject, and teachers well-trained in mathematics and the teaching of mathematics can make mathematics accessible to all middle and high school students with different needs and abilities. This can be a very fulfilling, emotionally satisfying and financially secure career for motivated students. Both the B.A. and B.S. degree programs in mathematics education lead to teacher certification; the B.S. degree may be more suitable for students who have taken or plan to take many credits in math and science, while the B.A. degree is ideal for students who are interested in achieving breadth in the liberal arts.

The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Political Science is designed for students who wish to combine advanced study of the Spanish language with a comprehensive background in Political Science and International Relations. The Spanish coursework included in the Spanish and History major will enable students to communicate with people of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds and foster understanding between cultures in our global society. The required coursework in Political Science exposes students to the theories, institutions and processes of political systems and their functions within complex societies. The combination of these two areas allows students to enhance their skills and gain a more worldly perspective by studying both the language and political relations of the Spanish-speaking world.

The Energy and Environmental Policy (ENEP) degree prepares students to address Energy and Environmental initiatives from multiple disciplines. The major offers an exciting opportunity for students to prepare for academic and professional careers in the high-demand fields of energy, environment, sustainable development and climate change.

They break natural substances down into their components, replicate in the laboratory chemical processes that occur in the physical world and create substances to fulfill specific needs. Chemical discoveries play an important role in helping us understand the world around us. Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.

Technology innovation changes the world by creating new knowledge, disrupting established industries and reshaping career paths. The entrepreneurship major prepares you to adapt and thrive amidst this rapid change.

Through first-hand experience, you will learn to recognize opportunity, generate ideas, validate business models, influence others, bring innovative technologies to market and launch and grow new ventures.You’ll join other students and entrepreneurs through the programs of Horn Entrepreneurship.

Program Highlights
Focused Study

• Enrollment in the ENTR major is limited to 30 students per year. This enables us to deliver a high-impact, small-school experience as well as the many opportunities associated with attending a major research university.
• You’ll move through the program with the other students in your class as a cohort, completing required entrepreneurship courses and being immersed in the broader entrepreneurial community together. Seasoned entrepreneurs and business leaders actively engage with you in all program courses and co-curricular activities.

Perhaps you’ve taken Latin in high school and discovered that you love playing with words and exploring ancient worlds.
