Knowledge of other languages and cultures gives our graduates a competitive advantage in any career, and is highly valued in international business and professional communities. Our graduates choose a variety of career paths in teaching, entertainment and media, government, travel, financial services or international business. Some students enter careers with international or non-governmental organizations such as the International Red Cross or the World Health Organization, while others go on to advanced degrees in preparation for work in international law, diplomacy and college teaching.

The B.S. in Applied Mathematics allows students to gain depth in mathematics as well as one of twenty-one areas of application in science and engineering such as Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Physics and Statistics. This degree prepares students planning a career in a field requiring strength in mathematics as well as in an area of application. Students considering a double major in Mathematics and a related area are advised to consider this program.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Management Concentration provides broad coverage of music combined with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. This program provides opportunities designed to prepare students for administrative careers within the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors of the music industry. A 4+1 program option is offered through the Bachelor of Arts in Music Management, which combines the liberal arts music major with a master’s degree in Business Administration completed in the fifth year of study.?

As a meteorology and climate science major, you will learn how to answer questions about weather and climate that are increasingly relevant and important to all of us. Will a hurricane change course and make landfall over a coastal city? How much snow will the Northeast get this winter? What do sea surface temperatures tell us about climate change?  

You will receive training in meteorology, the science of the atmosphere, that will help you understand and address events is felt throughout various sectors of society—droughts resulting in water shortages, crop damage and increased wildfire potential, or water surpluses causing flooding. You will also study the climate, which is usually considered to be an average of weather conditions over a long period of time, along with understanding the variability of climate and its extreme events. Your studies in this area will include land-ocean-atmosphere interactions, as well as the role of the sun and astronomical forces. The skills you develop in weather and climate prediction are important skills used in the agricultural, tourism, disaster management, resource management, communication and renewable energy industries.

New processes employing techniques from integrated manufacturing reduce waste and facilitate sequencing of activities through integrated project delivery, while new materials and methods promise to change the way business is done in the future.

We provide our students with the engineering foundation essential for professional licensure, valuable experience through co-op requirements, and formalized training in business essentials through an integrated business certificate program. Together, these elements prepare our students for leadership and success in the construction industry.

Landscape Architecture is perfect for any student interested in learning ways to address solutions to environmental, natural resource and sustainability challenges at local, regional and global levels. Landscape architects work in cities and communities to help keep air and water clean, provide habitat for wildlife and build safe, beautiful places for people to enjoy. They work in interdisciplinary firms with other professionals to design outside spaces where people live, work and play. So many of your favorite parks, plazas, golf courses and certainly college campuses resulted directly from the hands-on technical expertise and aesthetic sensibility of landscape architects. If you have been to Central Park in New York City or the Baltimore Inner Harbor, you have visited places designed, planned and managed by landscape architects.

Chances are that if you love science, there was a teacher or mentor who inspired or encouraged that passion. And if you want to spark that excitement in others, studying earth science education is the way to start. Earth science educators are critically important to teach young people to respect and conserve the planet’s resources and to maintain and preserve a healthy, livable environment.

In the earth science education program, you will be prepared for a future as a high school science teacher. The program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and emphasizes giving you a strong background in both liberal arts and content. You will complete all your field experiences and student teaching at one of Delaware’s fastest growing school districts during your sophomore, junior, and senior years, culminating with a 15-week student teaching practicum. On completing the program requirements, you will receive the University of Delaware's endorsement for teaching certification.

The Department of Art Conservation is an international leader committed to educating professional conservators skilled in the examination, analysis, treatment and care of cultural heritage. The department consists of an undergraduate and master’s program in art conservation.

Connecting the arts, humanities and sciences, an undergraduate degree in art conservation prepares students for graduate-level study in the preservation of material culture, historic preservation, museum studies, library science and other related fields. This program, one of only five in the nation, offers students the opportunity to work with leading conservators and scientists while studying a range of cultural materials from archaeological to indigenous and contemporary from the UD Special Collections & Museum and collecting repositories worldwide.  Since 1971, our graduates have preserved iconic treasures from the Declaration of Independence to the Emancipation Proclamation, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the decorative interiors of the Forbidden City and most recently the George Floyd Memorial. Their work engages communities, strengthens cultural understanding and fosters knowledge and joy.

Biochemistry, the study of chemical compounds and processes that occur in living organisms, has emerged as a field with growing impact on our ability to diagnose and treat diseases in animals, plants and humans.
