Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (STEM)
The structure of our society – roads, bridges, tunnels, railroads, dams, and airports – all depend on the skill of civil engineers. To a large extent, so does the health, safety, and welfare of the individuals in that society. In fact, civil engineers have saved more lives, through clean water and sanitation systems, than all of the doctors in history.
In the University of New Haven’s B.S. in civil engineering program, students participate in a multi-disciplinary curriculum that combines mathematics, science, communication, humanities, and social science with a broad base of civil engineering technologies.
The result? You develop the well-rounded perspective that’s critical to the modern-day engineer. Through this program, you will also:

Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine
A paramedic has a level of knowledge, skill, and treatment capabilities that are significantly beyond those of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and which can dramatically improve a patient’s outcome at the hospital. In response to the need for these uniquely trained emergency medical care professionals, the University of New Haven developed its paramedicine program. This program will prepare you to become a new breed of first responder – one who holds dual certification as both a firefighter and as a paramedic.
Hands-on learning will be a major part of your education. You’ll ride along with ambulance services and take patients’ vitals. You’ll practice doing chest compressions and starting IV lines on high-fidelity mannequins. You’ll become part of teams who care for patients in whatever medical emergency unfolds. The goal of the paramedicine program is to make your education as real-world as it gets.
Through this program, offered in conjunction with Yale New Haven Hospital, you will also:

The American Mathematics Society (AMS) has accepted a proposal by faculty members — including the University of New Haven’s Daniel Cicala — for a Mathematics Research Community on Applied Category Theory to be held in the summer of 2022. The faculty will lead 40 early-career mathematicians through an intensive week of research on that topic. The AMS Mathematics Research Communities is a professional development program for mathematicians who are just starting out. The program helps them develop collaborative research skills and build a network centered around an active research domain. Civil engineering positions account for the most jobs of any engineering field, and this job growth is predicted to continue. In Connecticut alone, job openings for civil and environmental engineers are expected to grow by 13.8 percent through 2022, which is higher than the aggregate rate of growth for all occupations in the state.
Federal funding for sustainable and "green" development has also led to an increase in environmentallyfriendly infrastructure projects, which has driven demand for civil and environmental engineers.
