Program Outcomes
In this program, your work is focused on problem-solving, student-focused experiences, and business or organization involvement. This master’s program is a one-year program requiring 33 credit hours. Six credit hours are dedicated to the extensive capstone project designed for the program by the sponsoring business or organization. The remaining credit hours are focused on advanced topics in information system design, development methodologies, database management systems, electronic business, and data communications. This program will prepare you to work in supply chain management jobs and careers or to continue your education with another graduate or doctoral degree. 

Materials engineers are on the cutting-edge of technology in virtually every field. Materials science and engineering students learn how to turn raw materials into useful products and technology.

Materials science engineers (MSE) design everything from fuel cells, superconductors, titanium turbine blades, and nanomaterials to graphite fiber tennis rackets, skis, synthetic heart valves, and lithium-ion batteries.

Materials engineers are constantly developing and improving materials for new uses and emerging technologies. These include many diverse areas such as improved metals to make safer and more fuel-efficient cars, high-temperature superconductors, new coatings to make fabric waterproof, new ceramic and metallic materials for medical implants, advanced composites for lighter, stronger equipment, and higher frequency lasers for improved fiber optic communication systems.

New technology is creating a need for new materials, which is driving the demand for engineers in the basic materials and advanced research areas of the profession.

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Aerospace Systems Engineering (MSE). The graduate program is non-traditional by requiring an interdisciplinary minor in an aerospace relevant area.

The Master of Science in Aerospace Systems Engineering (M.S.A.S.E.) program is designed to provide graduate study opportunities focused on theoretical study and practical experience in aerospace systems engineering that will effectively prepare them for the job markets or further doctoral study. The M.S.A.S.E. program differs from traditional Aerospace Engineering programs in that it requires breadth via requirement of cross disciplinary study modeled after our highly ranked PhD program and thus forms both the strongly needed systems understanding required in modern aerospace programs as well as a natural stepping stone for a PhD  program.

• Demonstrate a mathematical competency above that of an undergraduate engineering student.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in music is designed for students who want to study music but do not necessarily plan a professional career in music. Students will get a much broader, more general education than students seeking a Bachelor of Music degree. Required courses are kept to a minimum. Consequently, students must work closely with an advisor in selecting course electives. For graduation, students must complete level III in the applied music concentration.

You can harness the power of music and its ability to express and communicate while studying music at Wright State. You will develop knowledge, technical skill, and the use of technology in our multifaceted curriculum. After graduation, pursue a career as a performer, composer, arranger, teacher, cultural administrator, or community leader. The B.S. Degree Program in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences Concentration is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and experience required for graduate study and to prepare students for professional careers in a variety of fields including energy resources, water resources, environmental protection, and environmental site investigation and remediation.

Crime and justice studies (CJS) is an interdisciplinary and incredibly varied field of study. Knowledge specific to the discipline relies upon research from fields as varied as sociology, law, history, psychology, and political science. It encompasses analysis of federal, state, and local entities that seek to understand, control, and deter crime. The principal agencies charged with these responsibilities are law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections. More fundamentally, however, crime and justice studies examines questions of social justice—concerns related to equality, fairness, freedom, security, and social order. If you are interested in understanding the causes, responses, and consequences of crime for the individual as well as the larger society, consider this program.

Crime and justice studies is a liberal arts degree and therefore, our focus is on providing you with a well-rounded, critically engaged, and scientifically informed understanding of the field. While practical experience is a vital component of our curriculum, our larger mission is that, when you graduate, you will be an innovator and leader in your chosen occupations and will utilize scientific reasoning and sharply honed analytical skills on your path to success. You will be prepared for positions in a variety of occupations, including local and federal law enforcement, probation and parole, civil, criminal and juvenile courts, research, corrections, teaching, forensics, and a variety of other fields.

While crime and justice studies is an exciting and challenging major, it is not for everyone. Unfortunately, if you have a prior criminal record or a drug or alcohol dependency it will be difficult for you to obtain employment in the field once you graduate. Further, it is a field that generally requires not only keen analytic and technical skills but also the ability to empathize, establish strong interpersonal boundaries, and, most importantly, maintain fundamental respect for the rights and dignity of others.

Our undergraduate program offers a rigorous, challenging, and intellectually stimulating experience. You will simultaneously explore a subject you love while developing the kinds of universal skills employers seek—written and spoken communication, analytical and problem solving skills, and research experience. This prepares you for a wide variety of careers. Our graduates have gone on to start their own businesses, work in small and large corporations, pursue advanced professional training in the law, receive a commission as an officer in the United States armed forces, and serve the public in local, state, and federal agencies.
