The Master of Music in Music Education degree is a professionally oriented program. It is designed to serve music educators from primary to postsecondary levels. Though all courses are pertinent to terminal degree programs, they are equally valuable for students who plan to study at the doctoral level. A variety of program options allows students to design programs that suit their professional goals and take into account their backgrounds and experience.

Program Outcomes

• Be able to perform with a high degree of musicianship, technical security, and artistry.
• Be familiar with a wide range of repertoire appropriate for their instrument or voice.
• Be able to perform in both solo and ensemble settings and be familiar with successful rehearsal techniques appropriate to each setting.
• Be aware of appropriate pedagogical strategies and techniques to enable them to function as studio teachers.

• Develop the ability to sight-read music of diverse styles and genres, as well as to learn appropriate use of improvisation within historical context.
• Enhance collaborative skills through performance with chamber music (duets, trios, duo-piano, etc.
• Demonstrate (where degree appropriate) ability and proficiency in operatic singing.

The B.S. Degree Program in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences Concentration is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and experience required for graduate study and to prepare students for professional careers in a variety of fields including energy resources, water resources, environmental protection, and environmental site investigation and remediation.

By challenging you to analyze concepts clearly and evaluate evidence and arguments critically, philosophy hones your analytical reasoning skills, stimulates your intellectual creativity, and enriches your understanding of yourself, others, and the world. It makes your life more intellectually interesting and rewarding.

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.) in materials science and engineering and a Ph.D. in Engineering with a focus in materials and nanotechnology. The graduate programs are broad in scope, emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of the field of materials science and engineering. The program is built around processing, structure, properties, and performance of advanced materials relevant to numerous areas of application, such as biomedical, energy, aerospace, environmental, and manufacturing.

Whether you want to work in government, hospitals, entertainment, nonprofits, sports, or other industries, the general business program will set you apart from the other graduates in your career field. In this program, you will learn the basics of accounting, economics, marketing, financial management, and management and organizational behavior. The management and financial knowledge you gain will expand your job opportunities or help you get promoted sooner. You will apply the theories learned in the classroom to workplace challenges, learn to collaborate and work effectively in teams across and within functional areas, enhance your communication skills, sharpen critical and analytical thinking, deepen your ethical decision-making in business contexts, and proactively anticipate rapidly changing business challenges in a global economy.

This program gives you a broad base to move easily into the workplace in a variety of industries, as well as give you a broad foundation of valuable business skills for continuing your education in graduate studies.

Wright State has partnered with Miami University to bring our students the Greater Miami Valley Joint MASW program since 2012. Due to the success of this joint program, which is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), both schools are forming their own, independent MASW programs. We expect both independent programs to be accredited by CSWE and fully operational when the joint program ends in May 2021. At that time, Wright State students who were admitted and are enrolled in good standing in the joint program will automatically be admitted and transitioned to the independent Wright State MASW program. Beginning in the 2020 Summer Semester, all MASW classes for Wright State students will be held on the Dayton campus.

The M.A.S.W. program at Wright State University prepares students to be advanced generalist competent and ethical social workers to engage and intervene with diverse populations. Full-time (2 years), part-time (3-4 years), or advanced standing (3 semesters) programs are offered to admitted graduate students.

Our graduate Electrical Engineering program is highly respected within the industry, and we have placed hundreds of graduates with major international corporations and research institutions. Students have the opportunity to conduct research in many areas, including robotics, VLSI circuit design, power electronics, microwave theory, control theory, sensor data fusion, and digital signal and image processing.

The thesis option is for students who need or desire the full range of professional experience, including intensive research and writing. This option assures training in research techniques and in the preparation of scholarly papers. It culminates in the preparation and defense of a thesis based on original research. The student's program of study is an initiation into methods of focused study and research in a selected area of physiology or neuroscience.

The course option allows the student to plan a program of study that, along with the degree requirements, satisfies his or her educational needs and career objectives. This might be to extend knowledge for a current position, or as preparation for one of many health professions. The student's program of study typically culminates with two scientific writing courses broadly in the areas of Physiology and/or Neuroscience.

A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or nonprofit sector. Our curriculum stresses applied research using traditional and nontraditional methods and takes advantage of our faculty’s diverse teaching and research activities. You are encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving while building the skills to work in business, government, and nonprofit sectors or continue your education.

This graduate program equips you to solve contemporary economic problems with a unique set of skills created by a curriculum that combines applied economics with social economics. This program bridges the gap between research and the application of research in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. In this program, you will be encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving.

The urban affairs major is right for you if you want to make communities better places to live, if you want to fix problems such as vacant housing, decaying infrastructure, access to healthy food, ensuring safe neighborhoods, reducing homelessness, city planning, economic development, and equal education and job opportunities for future generations.

The Urban Affairs program provides students with an appreciation of the urban environment as a complex system and teaches them to approach urban processes from multiple perspectives. The Bachelor of Arts degree places emphasis on the qualitative aspects of public service management. In contrast, the Bachelor of Science degree emphasizes quantitative data analysis.
