IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is a test that students take to prove their English language proficiency to pursue an international degree. IELTS is accepted at nearly all universities and colleges in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, in addition to numerous other countries.
In India, IDP Education conducts IELTS exams, and there are two IELTS Test types: IELTS Academic Test and the IELTS General Test. You may take either test at any time throughout the year. Even if the official IELTS test dates for 2023 are offered throughout the year, the prior selection is always beneficial as the seats get filled expeditiously. IELTS tests are offered in both paper-based and computer-based formats.
There are two modes for taking IELTS tests: computer-delivered or paper-based. IELTS computer-delivered tests are offered three times a day, seven days a week, whereas the paper-based test is available up to four times a month. It is important to note that the paper-based IELTS test dates will vary as per the exam type, i.e., Academic or General Training.

There are 3 different types of IELTS modules:
IELTS test type | Fee (INR) |
Computer-based IELTS for UKVI | INR 15,750 |
IELTS for UK visa & immigration | INR 15,750 |
Computer-based IELTS | INR 15,500 |
Pen & paper based IELTS | INR 15,500 |
IELTS life skill (A1 & B1) | INR 14,600 |
You need to take only one IELTS exam, which consists of 4 modules. The writing, listening, and the reading module is conducted on the same day without any break and speaking is conducted a week before or after IELTS exam day.
In the IELTS Speaking test, you visit a center allocated to you per your timings. An invigilator will ask you questions like name, hometown, etc., followed by a topic on which you need to speak for 2 minutes. After that topic, you need to answer the question that will be based on the topic only. Your test will be recorded for this section, and the oral interview between you and the examiner can go upto 11 – 14 minutes.
Listening is similar for both academic and general test takers. The only thing that differs is band allotment as per correct answers. You will get a question paper having 4 sections consisting of 40 questions. You will hear 4 recordings one by one of native English speakers and answer questions.
Prior to taking the IELTS test, prospective test takers must register well in advance. IELTS test takers may either register online or in person. Either the computer-based or the paper-based IELTS test may be taken.
The process of registering for IELTS online is simple, quick, and hassle-free, provided one has a valid passport and a debit or credit card. To register for the IELTS test using the online method, follow these steps:
Individuals who are not able to register online may apply in person. Here is what they must do:
Prior to taking any competitive exam, registration is an essential element. You must keep these following points in mind while filling the application form:
Following 3 to 5 days after the test day, the online IELTS results will be accessible, while the offline mode test results will be accessible 13 days after the test date.
The test report form (TRF) format will be used to publish the results, and only one TRF will be provided. Along with the overall IELTS score banding, the TRF displays scores for each of the four IELTS sections: speaking, writing, listening, and reading. On a 9-Band scale, all five scores are shown.
All IELTS candidates must be aware of the exam norms and regulations. Thus, candidates must abide by all regulations to avoid being eliminated.
All those taking the IELTS test must bring a few other items besides identity credentials to their appointed testing centre:
You can only apply for a test cancellation if the test date is at least 15 days from the date you wish to take the test.
15-34 days before the test date, or if payment is made through offline channels, the candidate may only request a cancellation by providing supporting documents. The cancellation will be processed once the request is approved.
Within 8-10 business days, the refund will be processed after approval, after deducting administrative charges, if it is canceled.
IELTS centers will examine the application and look at the evidence if a student wants to defer their IELTS exam schedule 2023 within 34 days of the test date. Students will then be given a new IELTS date, depending on availability.
Any one of the following documents must be submitted by students:
IELTS Exam Type | Rescheduling Fees |
IELTS Paper-based | INR 3,873 |
IELTS for UKVI Paper-based | INR 3,935 |
IELTS for Life Skills | INR 3,650 |
Computer-delivered IELTS | INR 3,875 |
Computer-delivered IELTS for UKVI | INR 3,935 |
The IELTS exam has four sections, i.e., listening, reading, writing, and speaking. There are no basic eligibility requirements for the test, so anyone wishing to pursue English-speaking country education or employment opportunities can take this test.
If you are planning to take an IELTS exam next year and looking for IELTS exam test dates 2023. Well, the exams will start from 7th January for both academic and general test takers. It is advised to book your IELTS exam dates a month before as it will be difficult for you to book the seat as there are many study abroad aspirants who take the IELTS test.

The candidate must bring two things: a photocopy of their ID and writing materials, say stationery containing pen & pencils.
You must provide a medical certificate five days before your IELTS exam dates 2023 if you cannot attend the IELTS Exam due to a medical emergency (the administrative cost is not included). Furthermore, if you do not show up for the test, you will not be eligible for a refund.
There are no limits on when you can take the IELTS test; you may take it as often as you like. You will, however, need to pay the fees each time you take the test.
An IELTS test date cannot be changed without a compelling reason. Within five days of the test date, you may provide your medical certificate to the IELTS test administrator to request a rescheduling of your test. IELTS test dates 2023 are not rescheduled unless there is a critical situation or emergency.
The IELTS test will begin on January 7, 2023, for both the Academic and General Training sections. Make sure to reserve your preferred date and time slot in advance.
There is no specific answer as to which month the exam questions are easier, so it is best to prepare thoroughly and retake the exam after a few months.
The least time required for IELTS preparation is four months, though some test-takers require six months. There is no formal regulation about how long you must prepare for the IELTS exam. Some test-takers believe that 15 days of preparation is sufficient, whereas others may require more time.
The application fee for IELTS varies from country to country. In India, the IELTS exam fee is Rs 14,700.
