Our guest today is Harmanpreet. She is currently studying at Centennial College, Canada. She is going to share with us her experience, her journey, and advice about studying abroad. Hi Harmanpreet! Thanks so much for joining us!
Host - Before anything else, why did you choose to study in Canada?
Guest - Canadians and international students in Canada enjoy a high standard of living. It’s a great place to live and work. In fact, Canada is ranked #1 in the world when it comes to quality of life. According to the World University Rankings, it also has 4 of the top 100 best student cities in the world.
Host - Well, that’s great! Harmanpreet How did you feel when you landed in Canada as an international student?
Guest- I am proud to say that the ‘warm and friendly’ stereotype about Canadians is true. When I came to Canada, I found a welcoming country with a unique culture that embraces diversity. From urban centres to small towns, Canada is considered one of the safest countries in the world for international students.
Host - As an international student how has your experience been in Canada over the last couple of years?
Guest - These two years in Canada have been the most important time of my career till date. This experience has enriched me beyond what I believed was possible. Canada is a place that is safe and multicultural, where people are respected and taken care of.
Studying in Canada provided me with many skills from an international perspective. Thanks to the high quality of education, Canada is a country where your voice is heard and your opinion counts. Coming to Canada for my higher education was the best decision of my life.

Host - How has living on-campus been for you? Have you ever faced any problems?
Guest - Centennial’s on-campus life provided me with an enriching experience and has become my home away from home. The on-campus residence offers private bedrooms, fully-equipped with kitchens, on-site laundry, heating, air-conditioner, and a walking and biking option from campus to class.
Host - Can you give our listeners some idea about the annual tuition fee at Centennial College?
Guest - International students pursuing certifications or diplomas may be required to pay annual tuition and fee of approximately CAD 17,000. However, Students pursuing degree programs may be required to pay around CAD 20,000 in tuition and fees per year.
Host - Does Centennial College provide scholarships to international students?
Guest - International students are not eligible for Centennial College's entry scholarships. However, at the end of the 2nd semester, international students can be eligible for a partial scholarship based on academic merit along with all other students.
Centennial College is offering two scholarships to international students. One scholarship is awarded to an international student based on merit; the other to international transfer students based on academic performance. Both scholarships are offered to eligible students who have successfully completed two consecutive semesters.
Host - Would you like to give any advice to aspirants who want to come to Canada but are on a budget?
Guest - Canada is known for having some of the lowest university tuition fees among English-speaking countries. Whatever your budget may be, you’ll find something just right for you in the diverse range of education options that Canada offers. Research the cost of post-secondary programs and living expenses in the city or town of your choice so you can prepare your budget. I’m on a student budget and have managed to live a great student life here, working part time jobs after classes and on weekends.
Host- My last question for you, Harmanpreet, when should a student ideally apply to Centennial College?
Guest- Apply as soon as possible. While there is no deadline for applications, a number of programs fill up months before their start time, so apply early for your best chances of being admitted to your program of choice.
That brings us to the end of this episode! Thank you so much Harmanpreet for sharing your valuable insights with our listeners.
