This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting, who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. This qualification has specialisation pathways of ageing, disability, home and community. To achieve this qualification, the student must have completed at least 120 hours of vocational placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency. The unit CHCCCS023, Support independence and well being, links with the vocational placement.

Occupational therapy is a dynamic person-centred health profession. Practitioners support people of all ages, and their families, to engage in the occupations and activities of daily life, to optimise physical and mental health and wellbeing. Occupational therapists must be registered to practice in Australia, and may work in a range of government, educational, and industry settings, as well as in private enterprise, throughout the world.

The aim of our accredited Occupational Therapy Course is to develop highly competent and autonomous occupational therapy graduates, skilled in inter-professional and person-/family-centred occupational therapy practice. To achieve this, the course is informed by contemporary research and occupational therapy theories and models. It is taught by occupational therapists and other suitably qualified professionals who are skilled and experienced in the diverse areas of occupational therapy practice. Although it addresses local, national, and global community needs, a particular emphasis is on training graduates to work in rural and regional communities. The occupational therapy course aligns seamlessly with CQUniversity's focus on social innovation and status as Australia’s first Ashoka U Changemaker Campus.

Your education and training will include recognising aspects relevant to the person, the environment, and occupations that represent strengths and barriers to occupational engagement; and addressing these to support people to achieve their goals. You will engage in a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical practice, including full-time placements, for which you will need to meet a number of prerequisite requirements. In your final year, you will further develop your skills by planning and implementing a small community-based research or evaluation project enabling you to graduate work-ready.

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.

The Cookery, Restaurant and Bar Specialisation will give you skills and knowledge in Cookery and Restaurant service. As the course progresses you will develop a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and industry knowledge and develop essential skills to manage and operate a hospitality establishment. These skills will make a well-rounded and multi-skilled employee because of your understanding of numerous roles across the hospitality sector.

The Restaurant and Bar Specialisation will give you the edge on how to succeed in hospitality management, designed to improve your ability to lead and manage people. This specialisation is an opportunity to progress through the ranks by gaining greater levels of knowledge and experience in supervisory roles. This hands on course provides you the training and development you require for your future career.

This qualification reflects the role of commercial cooks who use a wide range of cookery skills. They use discretion and judgement and have a sound knowledge of kitchen operations. Students work with some independence and under limited supervision and may provide operational advice and support to team members. For those students undertaking the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery who also wish to qualify for the Trade Certification the process of qualifying with trade equivalence may take up to 3 years, however students who are employed throughout this time in the industry may be able to fast track.

Study the Bachelor of Nursing and gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a Registered Nurse (Division 1). This course prepares you to be reflective about your practice as a nurse and develop clinical reasoning skills in order to confidently and safely engage in contemporary nursing practice in a variety of environments and contexts and adapt to the needs of people from diverse backgrounds.

Through this course, you will acquire skills to provide person-centred care and collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. You will seek evidence to ensure safe quality practice and act in a professional, ethical and compassionate manner. In addition, you will learn to nurture the development of nursing as a practice discipline and demonstrate leadership in healthcare. You will explore how life-long learning skills can facilitate continuing professional development.

Clinical learning is a key element of the Bachelor of Nursing and you will be required to undertake 800 hours of professional experience placement in a variety of settings with different health organisations. You must meet specific mandatory health, safety and security requirements to be eligible to attend each professional experience placement. Professional experience placements may be limited in your community. This means that you may be placed in other locations and you may be required to relocate to complete your placements.

The aim of this course is to give you a comprehensive overview of the scientific discipline of psychology and its applications. The course is delivered in accordance with the foundational (level one) competencies for three-year undergraduate psychology programs as specified by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). You will acquire an understanding of the underlying principles, theories and concepts within the discipline. In addition, you will develop knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the discipline, and an understanding of the methodologies and statistical techniques used by researchers for information gathering and analysis. There will be opportunities for you to explore applied and professional uses of psychology. In addition, you will be introduced to psychological theory, research, and applied and professional uses of psychology in an ethical and culturally responsive context.

Upon completion of this course, you will have a highly marketable quali?cation. This course is universally acknowledged as an indication of competence and achievement in understanding human thought and behaviour that can be applied in a variety of people-oriented vocations. Graduating with this qualification, however, will not allow you to call yourself a 'psychologist'. This requires further study involving an Honours course (4th year of study) and then an accredited Psychology Board of Australia pathway.

Speech pathology is an exciting career that will enable you the opportunity to work with people across the lifespan. Completing the Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) at CQUniversity will equip you with valuable skills to enable you to work with people of all ages who have communication or swallowing difficulties. Your education and training will include a broad range of disciplines such as psychology, medical sciences and linguistics and phonetics, designed to ensure you graduate work-ready.

Completing placements in a variety of practice settings during your studies will enable you to gain valuable practical experience before you enter the workforce. On completion of this course, you will be qualified as an entry-level speech pathologist, ready to work with children and/or adults with a diverse range of communication and swallowing difficulties, in a variety of contexts. As part of your final year of study, you will be required to complete a research project on a topic relevant to speech pathology.

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences will equip you with practical skills in the various disciplines relevant to exercise and sport sciences such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise and sport psychology, motor control and learning, and exercise prescription and delivery.

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the processes and mechanisms of the human body as they relate to exercise and sport science and have the flexibility to pursue an area of interest, with your choice of Minor. During these placements, you will apply skills learned throughout the course and gain practical experience conducting exercise assessment, prescription, and delivery for a range of populations.

While completing the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Honours), you will build technical and evaluative skills to assess and implement recommendations for best practice in patient testing, monitoring and education.

You will also develop an advanced level of communication skill to ensure positive interactions with both patients and other health professionals.

This course will enable you to develop an advanced level of communication skill to interact positively with patients and other health professionals ready for the clinical or scientific work environment. Clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities are key skills for the medical laboratory scientist.
