Religious Studies
Understanding religion has seldom been as important as it is today. There is increasing dialogue among the greater religions of the world, but there is also increasing misunderstandings of religious traditions. Religious ideas are regularly debated in the media and featured in popular culture and religious beliefs play a significant role in conflict, peace building, and international development. With countries and communities becoming more diverse and complex, the need for cross-cultural religious literacy and inter-disciplinary expertise in religion is becoming more urgent.

The Religious Studies Major is a multi-disciplinary major that looks at religion and religions from diverse viewpoints and methodologies. The major includes units from the disciplines of anthropology, philosophy, sociology, literary and cultural studies and others. It also offers the possibility of focusing on particular religious traditions.

The Master of Cyber Security (Professional) extends the specialized cyber security skills obtained in the Master of Cyber Security by providing you with opportunities to gain practical experience. Medical Genomics
The Medical Genomics major will examine core genomics areas, including medical and human genomics, comparative genomics, microbial and forensic genomics, biotechnology (drug discovery) and phylogenomics. You will gain a sound understanding of associated methodologies including Next Generation Sequencing, high throughput genotyping, metagenomics, small RNA and transcriptome analysis. You will acquire quantitative and bioinformatics skills required for genomics research and big data analysis and will apply the bioinformatics concepts and methods, programs and pipelines required to support contemporary genomics research and big data analysis and interpretation. The impact of personalised medicine and ethical and social issues related to the use of genomics in the context of human health and diversity, biomedical research and biotechnology will also be discussed.

Gender and Sexuality Studies

Through an integrated study of local experiences and transnational flows of knowledge and influences, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Deakin provides students with an understanding of key forces which shape our understandings and lived experiences of gender and sexuality, both as cultural phenomena and as embodied practices. In particular, the programme emphasizes the intersectional dimensions of gender and sexuality, addressing questions of class, citizenship, ethnicity, race, religion, ability, and geographical location. Throughout their studies, units in this Major help students to develop skills to analytically reflect on, and contribute to, a range of important debates. These include discussions about how sex, gender and sexuality inform understandings of the self, and how we recognize and respond to difference.

Gain the latest knowledge in medical radiation science and develop your skills in techniques like general radiography, computed tomography (CT), digital vascular imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). You will learn in our world-class medical imaging labs, which have the capabilities of real medical imaging clinics.

Throughout the course, you will explore important professionalism, communication, ethical and legal aspects of healthcare. Clinical placements start in your first year and are based in the metro, rural and regional settings. You will gain valuable clinical practice in clinical centers and hospitals, and in our medical imaging training unit, giving you diverse experience and skills that ensure you graduate confident and career-ready. As a graduate, you will be eligible for registration as a Medical Radiation Practitioner (diagnostic radiographer).

This major brings together complementary units from within Health and Social Development and Psychology with a particular focus on the health and development of the family system and its members.
