The UNSW Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering) is designed for students who want to understand nuclear concepts that form the foundation of our universe. Through this degree you’ll develop the skills to apply these concepts to a variety of industries today and the technologies of the future. This postgraduate degree teaches you the underpinning theory behind nuclear engineering techniques, technologies and processes.

This degree also provides a stream that allows graduates from traditional engineering disciplines to pursue a career in high-tech industries including nuclear science, nuclear medicine, mining and resources, energy, manufacturing, aerospace, space exploration and defence. You’ll learn from national and international experts in the sector, including nuclear researchers from UNSW Sydney and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, plus shared courses with the UNSW-ASU-King’s College PLuS Alliance.

The two-year postgraduate degree, taught by the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, features complex, open-ended, enquiry-based projects. You’ll develop knowledge and skills in topics such as:

The Master of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) is a two-year full-time degree that'll help you develop the specialised skills and knowledge to build a successful career in Biomedical Engineering and gain a recognised accreditation. This degree is designed for students who don’t have a formal engineering accreditation but have an undergraduate degree in engineering, health or medical sciences.

When you study the Master of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) you'll expand your knowledge, skills and develop job prospects through a specialised study in the area of Biomedical Engineering. In this degree, you’ll learn about engineering applications in medicine including neuromodulation and bioinstrumentation, biomechanics and rehabilitation, tissue engineering, bioinformatics, as well as medical device design. As a part of your studies, you’ll also complete an open-ended research project.

You’ll be required to complete 60 days of industrial training in Biomedical Engineering and/or other Engineering fields, through this you’ll receive industry exposure and professional practice. Your degree will include a compulsory Master's Thesis which adds a research component to your study. You’ll graduate as an accredited Biomedical Engineer, with an Engineers Australia accreditation. After completing this postgraduate degree you’ll meet national and international benchmarks to take your career to the next level.

The Master of Engineering Science (Structural Engineering) will help you develop advanced professional skills in computational analysis and design of steel, and in reinforced, composite and pre-stressed concrete structures.

It is designed for practising structural engineers and recent graduates planning a career in structural or civil engineering.

You will investigate and gain practical experience in the structural integrity of materials used in buildings, bridges, dams, tunnels, roads, pavements and other structures when exposed to natural phenomena or hostile environments.

The typical two-year program, sitting within the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, comprises 16 courses and features complex, open-ended enquiry-based projects as well as many other opportunities to help you become a leader in the field.

The program offers advanced disciplinary knowledge courses in the likes of structural stability, pre-stressed and reinforced concrete design, bridge engineering, advanced materials technology and computational structural mechanics.

In addition, you will develop a systematic approach to solving problems, as well as core project planning skills and the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate results proficiently.

Those with a degree or extensive prior professional experience in a related area can apply for credit of up to 50% of a program.

The UNSW Master of Translation is a 1.7 year full-time postgraduate degree that prepares you for a successful career as a certified translator, both in Australia and overseas.
