The type of engineer you’ll become often depends on the specialisation you choose in this degree. This degree offers 19 engineering specialisations across different engineering disciplines.

 Industrial Design (Major)

When you study Industrial Design at UNSW, you’ll be inspired and challenged to use insightful and strategic product design for the good of people and the planet.

Through practical studio classes and theoretical courses, you’ll explore design thinking and methodologies. With an ethical and sustainable approach, you’ll develop professional design skills in drawing, ideation, making, and prototyping as you learn about manufacturing technology, materials, sustainability, user interaction and more.

Media is the glue of a modern society. It now shapes every aspect of life today. The Bachelor of Media at UNSW unlocks the specialist expertise, self-knowledge, creative thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to make an impact as a media professional, or simply set you up as a more aware professional to succeed in your second and third job, not just your first.

Cinema studies
What makes cinematic experiences move our hearts and minds so deeply? Discover how cinema can affect us powerfully, through the creative combination of various methods, techniques, narratives, and messages. 

This specialisation will develop your skills in critical thinking, researching, planning, and presenting conceptual projects. You’ll understand the intersection between entertainment, politics, and aesthetics, with a critical exploration of political cinema, cult film, experimental and mainstream movies.

Hone your critical voice while developing skills in close and careful film analysis and deepen your understanding of the intersections between popular entertainment, politics, and aesthetics. 

You’ll have opportunities to apply your knowledge to practical industry experiences such as collaborating on a short film, running a film festival, and doing an industry internship.

Upon graduating, you’ll be ready for a career in creative and cultural industries, including film journalism, festival programming, distribution, advertising, policy, and education.

The Master of Financial Analysis is a specialist qualification that builds on your prior degree and substantial studies in accounting and/or finance. It will extend your understanding and abilities in financial analysis, giving you a solid grounding in high-level skills for the development of a wide range of careers, such as investment analysis, funds management, chief financial officer role or almost any career involving business analysis. It draws on cutting-edge teaching and research from UNSW Business School which is ranked 1st in Australia and top 20 worldwide for Accounting & Finance*.

You will develop your strategy skills, risk analysis and management, valuation, and project development/management. A large range of courses gives you the flexibility to tailor your study to meet your individual professional development needs.

When you undertake this double degree you’ll graduate with two separate degrees that provide a diverse but complementary knowledge and skill-base.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) component of this degree will give you a broad education in engineering so you can envision the different ways computer science can improve various engineering disciplines. Computer Science is the study of the design, construction and use of computer systems. As a computer scientist you’ll use and create technology to solve problems and improve interactions between people and computers.

The Computer Science component emphasises comprehension of the basic principles behind computing tools, operating systems, compilers and translators, and computer hardware. You’ll study the representation of data and data structures and the design of algorithms, as well as the creation of hardware and software tools and the role of non-computing elements in the design and development process.

The Bachelor of Commerce/Law will distinguish you in a competitive business world, underpinned by a comprehensive legal education.

You'll build a thorough understanding of the legal processes, systems and frameworks in society and knowledge of how the law and business interact. In your Commerce degree, you’ll learn core business principles across a range of disciplines through our Integrated First Year. Biotechnology takes our understanding of cell biology and chemistry to create a range of products and solutions to problems in medicine, food and energy. The Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) includes fundamental teaching in the life sciences, explores current trends and issues in the industry and tackles key focus areas including synthetic biology, bioprocessing, medical applications and commercialisation. It also incorporates a research-based honours year, providing you with greater experience and confidence in the practice of scientific methods.

• At UNSW Science, we focus on delivering the optimal balance of theory and practical work to equip you with the skills and experience to fast-track your career. The SCIF3199 Science Work Placement course gives you the opportunity to gain practical work experience through an internship. Previous work placement students have interned with IT companies, start-ups, government departments and large biomedical and biotechnology companies. Along with new professional skills and connections, you’ll also gain course credit for your work placement.

• The SCIF2041 Research Internship course gives you the opportunity to complete a short theoretical or experimental research project in a world-leading research team supervised by a member of academic staff. Internships may also involve a placement outside of UNSW, in the form of externally funded research programs.

Dietetics is an allied health profession that applies the science of food and nutrition to optimise health, treat illnesses and prevent the onset of chronic diseases. A dietitian can help people manage health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal diseases, obesity and food allergies. 

Food innovation examines all aspects of the food value chain from agriculture, food technology, food manufacturing and the retail sector, through to innovations and digital technologies. It looks at how we can improve the food system to address current and future food equity and sustainability challenges. 

This unique combination of complementary disciplines expands your career options as you'll be able to work both within and outside of the healthcare sector. At the end of the five years, you'll graduate with both a bachelor's and a master's degree, which will give you a competitive advantage in the job market.
