Human Resource Management

The Human Resource Management Major is designed for people who seek careers in human resource management and industrial relations.

Graduates’ careers focus on enhancing the value of human and social capital through supporting employee engagement for many different kinds of organisations, market-oriented and community-oriented organisations and many kinds of people. The teaching philosophy is based on knowledge in action, a fusion of the Australia Human Resource Institute’s capabilities for HR professionals and the Western Sydney University Graduate Attributes designed to secure success.

An aim of the program is to instil those values and attitudes that can support leaders in judgements about balancing the pursuit of organisational objectives with creating opportunities for developing people’s capacities and careers. Focus on a discipline area by selecting a major in Advanced Manufacturing, Civil, Construction, Materials, and Sustainability Engineering, or join the WSU-UNSW Collaborative Program by selecting a major in Electrical, Mechanical or Robotic & Mechatronics. Advanced Manufacturing

Manufacturing is continuously transforming as it integrates automation, analytics, intelligence, digitisation, and Internet of Things (IoT) into physical operations. In this major, you integrate techniques and methods to improve the sustainability and efficiency of manufacturing taking advantage of digitisation tools. You tackle complex problems, propose innovative solutions, and apply critical thinking to industry problems considering social, ethical and environmental factors.

The Master of Business Administration/Master of Applied Finance double degree offers a comprehensive range of subjects equipping you with the skills and knowledge necessary for careers in the finance, banking and investment sectors.

Upon completion of the double degree, you will have acquired a firm foundation in economic and financial theories as well as state-of-the-art quantitative financial skills. Project management plays an important role in most, if not all, occupations. Be skilled and prepared to apply key project management concepts and practices across a variety of professions.

Our graduates are proficient in domain-specific customising of a project management life cycle and in developing comprehensive project plans involving cost and quality control, managing risks and stakeholders. The primary focus of our Industrial Design program is ensuring that our graduates are completely industry-ready, able to think strategically and provide innovative design solutions in a commercial context. Mechatronics (and robotics) provides the skills necessary for the design of smart machines of all types: cruise control in automobiles, pilotless spacecraft, automated factories and medical telerobotics. The program, accompanied by an extensive and integrated hands-on laboratory program, is essentially concerned with the design of intelligent mechanical systems and automation, and includes the study of robotics, computer control, automated manufacturing, microprocessor applications and machine design. Graduates in the program acquire the combined skills of mechanical and computer/electrical engineering that are needed in leading-edge industries such as aerospace systems, the car industry, automation and robotic applications, biomedical engineering, laser systems, and building materials manufacture.
