Get ready to learn the language of graphic design. Study composition and layout, typography, and digital painting and drawing software. Gain an understanding of programming fundamentals and video/audio skills to ensure you have the foundation for today’s world of multimedia communication. For even more of an edge, dip into marketing and branding, sharpen your project management skills, and focus in on an area of expertise in your final term. Become a digital Swiss army knife, ready to hit the ground running wherever your career takes you.

Working with others is a large part of what creatives do. This program will have you constantly collaborating and connecting with your peers, instructors and the community at large. Work at an in-house creative shop where you’ll design aesthetically pleasing and purposeful high-end graphical content that solves real-world client problems. Grow your listening and interpretation skills, and learn how to express and communicate the “why” of your designs. 

It’s not all Photoshop and Illustrator in this program. Get a flexible and comprehensive education that will prepare you to enter the workforce as a valuable member of a creative team or as a freelance specialist. Community projects are infused throughout the program, you’ll work in tandem with actual clients during your Capstone project, and finally, you’ll put everything you’ve learned into practice with an eight-week practicum. 

Develop your skills in servicing, diagnosing and repairing agricultural, heavy duty and transport equipment. Gain practical skills with all types of engines, systems and safety regulations.

This 9-month certificate program gives you the training you need to service agricultural, heavy equipment and transport trucks. Learn the theory of diagnosing and repairing, then get in the shop and put that theory to work operating and fixing the machines.

You will be trained on diesel engines, power trains, and electrical systems, along with learning related shop skills, not to mention important shop and workplace safety. You will also explore the different types of systems that are responsible for electronic and computerized control, monitoring, diesel and gasoline fuel, air-conditioning, hydraulics, steering, suspension and advanced braking, plus equipment service and operation.

You can earn credit as an apprentice or put your skills to work immediately in an agricultural or heavy duty business. You will be ready to take on entry-level roles in industries like construction, agriculture, transport, mining, oil field and logging, with jobs available as technicians in the farm machinery, transport truck and construction equipment sectors. If you register as an apprentice within two years of finishing the program you may receive credit for Level 1 of Agricultural Equipment Technician apprenticeship, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprenticeship, or Truck and Transport Mechanic apprenticeship.

Agriculture is big business. In this program, you will learn both the business and the science behind the industry. Develop your skills by combining outdoor learning with time in classrooms and modern labs equipped with microscopes and growth chambers.

Enhance your skills in agronomy, GIS, GPS and computer applications, livestock production, communications, customer service, sales and marketing, and business management. Apply your knowledge and problem-solving skills by developing agri-marketing strategies and dynamic presentations.

Connect to the vibrant agribusiness industry. Enjoy hands-on activities and tours while you network with others in the field. This program includes a co-operative work placement between your first and second year, giving you practical experience before graduating.

Jobs are numerous and diverse, whether you prefer city or country life. Build a career with grain companies, seed fertilizer providers, banks and credit unions, livestock supply outlets, agricultural equipment dealers, government agencies and co-operatives.

Take your interest in technology to the next level. Design, manufacture and install the most up-to-date communications systems that keep us linked together.

It’s a real concept and has real-world application. The internet (IOT) is the physical network of devices, appliances, vehicles and other items that integrate and connect to exchange data and make our lives run smoother, easier and more efficiently. In this program, you’ll be at the centre of creating and supporting it.

Learn to support the design, development and repair of communication systems, such as voice, video, data, wi-fi and Bluetooth, through this accredited two-year program. You will graduate with the skills necessary to create, manufacture, install and analyze different types of communication technologies.

There are industry opportunities for you through our Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers student branch, Cisco Networking Systems partnership and CTAB accreditation. Assiniboine even has a connection to the Canadian Forces, where you can be accredited as a Weapon Engineering Technician.

Hone your craft across a wide range of audiovisual environments. The media specialization teaches you to write, announce, shoot, record, edit and produce items for broadcast, cable and audio/visual departments. We offer an eight-week work practicum at the end of your second year of study to help you build on your strengths and start making industry connections before graduation. Our past partners include Bell Media, CBC, CTV, Global Television and Westman Communications Group.

The two-year Legal Administration diploma is for the students who want to prepare for a career in justice, law or real estate and incorporates procedural knowledge of Canadian legal processes in private and public law, comprehensive technical vocabulary, legal transcription in police offices and courts and higher lever administrative training. Besides, the students also learn how to chair meetings, take effective minutes and the PClaw Software.

Be recognized as a confident office professional in the legal industries. Develop your skills in legal terminology, Microsoft Office Suite, customer service and the creation of industry documents that today’s employers desire. Prepare for a stimulating career in law, justice or real estate with this two-year diploma. Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to visit a number of organizations including the Brandon Police Service, Child and Family Services, Manitoba Courts, the City of Brandon, private legal firms and real estate agencies.

Be prepared to work in professional services, legal offices, court systems, law enforcement agencies, city and rural municipality offices, mortgage companies and real estate agencies. Careers for graduates include legal transcriptionist, executive assistant, customer service representative, office manager, legal secretary and records control specialist.

The Business Administration program is designed with the entrepreneurial spirit in mind. Learn how to negotiate, invest, sell, market and manage people in this economy. Then, connect the dots within a strategic approach. This program will prepare you to administer and manage all types and sizes of businesses. In the second year, students specialize in one of the following areas:

• Accounting
• Financial Services
• Human Resource Management
• Marketing

These different specializations allow you to focus your career path during your second year. There are 60 credits of required courses that are common to all specializations (typically scheduled in year one for on campus students). Applicants declare their specialization at the time of applying to the program.

You may choose to complete your first year of any specialization at either the Parkland (Dauphin) or Victoria Avenue East campus (Brandon), however only the second-year of the Accounting and Human Resource Management specializations are available at our Parkland campus. All four specializations are offered in full at Assiniboine's Victoria Avenue East campus.

Financial Services Specialization
Graduates find excellent opportunities in the financial services’ industry as personal banking officers, lending officers (retail and agricultural), investment analysts, stockbrokers, and customer service representatives.

Learn the basics of civil engineering technology in this certificate program. Be a part of designing the future: bridges, highways, dams, parks, sewer systems—just a few of the systems that affect our lives. You will develop skills in computer-aided design (CAD), land and construction surveying, drafting fundamentals, and basic design concepts for residential construction.

If you are a natural problem solver and passionate about finding hands-on solutions, this is the program for you. Small class sizes, dedicated instructors and industry connections prepare you for an exciting career as a civil technician.

As a graduate, you will have plenty of employment opportunities. We prepare you to be influential contributors to the civil engineering field. You will graduate with both technical and practical experience and be prepared to work in either public or private industry.

Work with individuals, groups and communities to develop strategies and programs to proactively address social challenges, including poverty, addiction, abuse and mental health issues. This program, with an Indigenous focus, will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful contribution.

Gain practical skills and knowledge in counselling and interviewing, professional communication and proposal writing while also learning more about Indigenous cultures through hands-on activities and field trips. Through your placements you will explore roles in community health, education and institutional environments. Work on the front lines of social services for provincial, municipal and private agencies. Gain experience in community health centres, justice services, long-term care facilities, social service departments, schools, youth centres, outreach services, addiction centres and mental health services.
