The CCES certificate prepares students for the rigours of post-secondary studies in the broad field of Education and related disciplines.

CCES provides a background in educational theory, Canadian educational context, and Canadian culture. Crucial skills required to be successful in Canadian post-secondary programs such as research skills, critical thinking skills, academic communication skills and problem-solving skills, are provided through an educational studies context. Opportunities for international students to improve their English language proficiency, increase their familiarity with Canadian cultural practices, and engage in Canadian communities are integrated into the program. Assistance with applying to advanced post-secondary programs is provided. The international student will be well-prepared to apply to, and succeed in, an academic program at a Canadian postsecondary institution.

The Honours Critical Criminology degree provides students the opportunity for an extensive examination of whose interests are served by ‘law and order’ ideologies, policies and practices of social control.

This degree offers a distinct orientation to law making, law breaking, law enforcement and social reaction. Students will look beyond crime and punishment and explore larger issues of surveillance, criminalization, interpersonal and structural violence, and more. The Honours BA in Critical Criminology will expose students to criminology in the broader context of theories of justice and equity — an important distinction both in the field and in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Students can expect to graduate equipped with advanced training in theory and methods, as well as applied and practical experience, in order to become leaders in areas such as law, policy, research and data analysis, and public accountability arenas.

In the Department of Visual Arts (VISA), education takes place within well-equipped studios and teaching spaces, as well as in our vibrant local arts community.

We provide education in two distinct but interconnected streams: Studio Art (STDA) and the History of Art and Visual Culture (HAVC). Studio students take courses
in all fine art media, such as painting, photography, drawing, digital media, performance art, and non-traditional methods of expression. HAVC courses explore history as it is connected to the present, with a focus on themes such as the body in art and visual culture or the role of censorship from the ancient world to the present day. Courses are innovative, interdisciplinary and in keeping with the currencies of contemporary thought.

Our professors are exhibiting artists and published scholars who have mastered a wide array of media and topics, and are fluent in emerging discourses. Add to that a vibrant roster of internationally exhibiting artists who come through Rodman Hall Art Centre, the University’s art gallery, and you have a well-rounded, exciting education in Visual Art. Want to show your work, curate a show, or participate in a festival? How about giving a lecture on your research, or travelling to see art in Italy or Greece? All is possible within a degree program in the Department of Visual Arts.

This exciting mathematics program is flexible, innovative and provides opportunities for students to work with leading researchers to gain academic and employment experience.

Choose from a broad range of courses or concentrations in pure mathematics (development of mathematical ideas and concepts for their own sake), applied mathematics (mathematics for applications in science, engineering, economics or business), statistics (experimental design, sampling methods and data analysis techniques), MICA (mathematics coupled with modern computer software applications) or mathematics education.

Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour, and the program at Brock offers a diverse approach to this exciting field of study.

We offer courses that cover a variety of topics in Psychology, including: Social Processes (e.g., Development of Deception, Psychology of Prejudice and Discrimination, Human Sexuality), Brain and Cognition (e.g., Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Neuropsychology, Neuropsychopharmacology), and Applied Psychology (e.g., Counselling and Psychotherapy, Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology).

Our Department has an expertise in examining psychological processes and behaviour across the lifespan, from infancy to old age. Studying Psychology is applicable to a wide variety of career paths such as those in research and industry, counselling and clinical psychology, business, government, and education.

Through lectures, seminars, labs, and one-on-one mentoring, students gain expertise in human behaviour and job-related skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, problem solving, project management, research design, and data management and analysis. Our department also requires that students complete specific courses that will help with career preparation (e.g., skill development and identification, exploring career opportunities, job searches and interviewing skills, statistics and data management), as well as a wealth of opportunities to learn outside of the classroom.

Co-op is available with any of our 4-year degree options, where students will complete 3 separate work terms over the 4 years. Students can also gain applied experiences by participating in the Psych Society, working as a teaching assistant or becoming a research assistant in one of our internationally renowned laboratories. These experiences will enrich your studies and help you to launch your career.

The program centers on the biophysical establishment of human wellbeing, with courses in life structures, physiology, science, and science, notwithstanding the social parts of wellbeing. It incorporates propelled courses with research center segments in clinical the study of disease transmission, human immunology, restorative microbiology, parasitology, pharmacology, cardiology, and pathology. 

Abundant open doors for experiential learning exist inside the program at spots, for example, the Brock-Niagara Center for Health and Well-Being. 

Understudies will finish course work and have investigated openings in the cutting edge Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex at the University.

Biophysics is the physics of life, of all living systems and their interaction with their surroundings, both natural and artificial. It is a rapidly advancing field, encompassing a wide variety of areas in natural and life sciences.

Biophysics uses all methods of scientific inquiry — theory, experiment and large-scale computer simulation — to understand living systems at the molecular level.

Biophysics also forms the basis of many aspects of medical physics, another rapidly developing field in much demand right now.

Brock’s Biophysics program will provide you with a superb learning environment and exciting research opportunities. Extended research opportunities are available through Brock’s participation in the Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (BIG), based at the University of Guelph.

Our Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program combines professionally oriented business courses with studies in social sciences, humanities, and mathematics and science.

A combination of case studies, experiential learning, small classroom lectures, group projects and independent work will help you develop key business skills, including oral and written communication skills; ethical, analytical and problem-solving skills; and critical reasoning skills. Our Business Administration Co-op students complete work terms with major companies in Canada and abroad. You’ll enrich your academic studies by applying the concepts you have learned in class to your work experience. You may sample a variety of work placements to develop a greater awareness of your future career path and interests.

The Certificate in Drama in Education and Applied Theatre would be of particular interest to social workers, drama therapists, psycho-therapists, prison counsellors, people who train volunteers, personnel managers, union organizers and market consultants who wish to add to existing qualifications or to acquire courses which might later be applied to a degree. Studies include the development of skills, such as assessing and evaluating what is perceived, generating ideas, making connections, predicting outcomes, empathizing, abstracting the core from the periphery, questioning, accommodating and compromising and self-presentation.
