Labour Studies is an interdisciplinary field and is home to popular courses, including Labour of Sport, Labour and Employment Law, Animals at Work, and our simulation-based Collective Bargaining course.
You’ll find a mix of theoretical and applied courses designed to prepare you for a wide range of careers in labour and employment relations, workplace education and training, public policy and administration, and social justice and advocacy.
You may pursue a Labour Studies degree or a combined Labour Studies degree with a co- major in Political Science, Sociology, History, Geography, Economics or Women’s and Gender Studies.

The Labour Studies Co-op program offers students a combination of rigorous training in academic theory and practical skills in an off-campus, work based setting. Co-op students gain an enriched understanding of their academic program through practical application. Students develop and refine employability skills, gain an understanding of career opportunities in their field, and gain an understanding of the realities of the workplace.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science is suitable for people who wish to pursue a pattern of studies that don’t coincide with a combined major program or a single major. The program is available as a 15- credit degree and the requirement for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts (Pass) Degree Social Sciences is a minimum of 60 per cent overall average on completion of program requirements. The degree will carry no major or area concentration. 

We’ll provide you with a comprehensive education encompassing sensory science, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, plant physiology and cell biology.

Your education will be enhanced by an opportunity to apply what you learn in the lecture hall with hands-on winemaking labs and viticulture field-work. Extracurricular lectures and events organized by Brock’s internationally renowned Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (brocku.ca/ccovi) connect you with leading researchers in the field. Industry experience via our co-op program (brocku.ca/co-op) will also be an essential part of your education. At least one work term will be in a vineyard setting with another at a winery during harvest time. CCOVI is the only institute of its kind in Canada.

Our Master of Arts program is designed to integrate these important elements in an educational experience promoting a high level of expertise and professionalism.

We currently offer opportunities for graduate studies in Applied Linguistics for those interested in the field of Teaching English as a Second/Subsequent Language (TESL), as well as for those with an interest in applying linguistics more generally, or to other domains, including Speech Communication Disorders.

Graduates of this professional program will be well-prepared to become TESL professionals, practicing in Canada or abroad AND/OR prepared for future graduate pursuits in fields related to Applied Linguistics, including Speech-Language Pathology.

BRIDGED ENTRY — COURSE-BASED OR MAJOR RESEARCH PAPER (FOR APPLICANTS WHO NEED EXTRA ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT).
Our unique Bridged Entry program is designed for students who would benefit from further assistance using academic English, providing hands-on, preparatory instruction plus one-on-one mentoring throughout the academic year.

While course work is taken with the Direct Entry students at the same academic and professional level, Bridged Entry students have an additional preparatory course (LING 5N01) running from the beginning of July to the end of August before coursework begins. This preparatory course covers topics from academic integrity to the appropriate construction of an academic paper for applied linguistics. In addition, from September to August, Bridged Entry students have regular access to a Writing Mentor who is able to help with the mechanics of writing effective research papers, essays and other assignments.

This exciting program will allow you to combine your interests in mathematics and computer science and provide you with a unique work experience. The 4.5-year program combines the strengths of our Computer Science program with our Mathematics program, showing you how to apply what you learn in Mathematics by using technology.

The study of Political Science aims to teach students how to focus on the ideas, institutions and processes that shape our lives, helping them to become better members and effective leaders of the Canadian political community.

In Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics and International Relations, you’ll examine power relationships and the organization of power within and among states. The study of Public Policy asks how policies are made and implemented in the complex machinery of government. Political Theory/ Philosophy asks how power ought to be organized and to what end.

Are you interested in how children acquire language, how the skills of second-language speakers develop, how various language disorders can be diagnosed and treated, or how social or cultural environments interact with language?

Hearing Sciences: Learn about basic science and communication processes, including the anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing, acoustics, linguistics, child language development and selected disorders of human communication. Concentrate in Hearing Sciences and learn about sound, hearing, and hearing disorders, and prepare for admission to graduate audiology programs

Recreation professionals deliver health, social, economic, and environmental benefits through leisure services.

You may choose one of the following areas of concentration:

• Community Recreation studies leisure services in diverse and changing communities, including management, community development and the needs of participants. Career opportunities exist in municipal and non-profit organizations, program development, and facility management with children, youth and seniors.
• Outdoor Recreation focuses on leadership in the natural environment. You’ll prepare to serve as a wilderness trip leader, facilitate groups in outdoor recreation settings, work in outdoor and experiential education environments, and promote social and environmental change in the world. Activities include lectures, outdoor and experiential activities, and small group work. Career opportunities exist in environmental education, outdoor adventure and leadership, K-12 classroom teaching, wilderness therapy, camp administration, ropes course facilitators and builders, and change makers.
• Therapeutic Recreation is focused on the goal of ensuring that all individuals, regardless of ability, have access to meaningful leisure in their lives. You’ll gain hands-on experience in providing services to marginalized individuals (people with disabilities and illnesses, recent immigrants, people who experience poverty and
• older adults), using leisure to improve functional abilities and quality of life. Career opportunities exist in rehabilitation centres, hospitals, mental health centres, long-term care homes, community organizations and private practices.

This outstanding opportunity, allows you to combine your studies in Business at Goodman with an experience at the Lancaster University Management School in England, EBS Business School in Germany, ESB Reutlingen University in Germany, NEOMA Business School in France, or Dublin City University in Ireland. No matter which school you choose, your experience will include co-op work-terms in both Canada and the respective country.

You’ll study both at Brock and the partner school and receive two internationally recognized degrees. This co-op only program gives you the global perspective desirable in today’s economy and the work experience to back it up.

England: Lancaster University Management School (LUMS): Study for two years at the Goodman School of Business and two years at Lancaster University Management School in England.
France: NEOMA Business School (NBS): Study for 2.5 years at the Goodman School of Business and two years at NEOMA Business School in France. You will study in French at NEOMA — a minimum Grade 12 French is required for entry to this program, and French language courses must be completed at Brock in Year 2 of your program.
Germany: EBS Business School: Study for 2.5 years at the Goodman School of Business and 1.5 years at EBS Business School in Germany. You will study in English at EBS; however, you will take German language courses at both schools so that you are prepared to work in a German work environment.
Germany: ESB Reutlingen University: Study for 2.5 years at the Goodman School of Business and two years at ESB Reutlingen in Germany. At ESB, you will study 50 per cent in German in Year 3 and 100 per cent in German in Year 4. You will study German language in years 1 and 2 to prepare.
Ireland: Dublin City University: Study for 2.5 years at the Goodman School of Business and two years at Dublin City University in Ireland.

You’ll be on the forefront of research in this exciting and knowledge-based industry. You’ll take courses in biological sciences, chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology, exploring the use of living organisms to produce goods and services for practical and industrial purposes.

Career opportunities in biotechnology are expanding rapidly due to a dramatic increase in global market demands for biotechnology products.

As a modern biotechnologist, you’ll study areas such as recombinant DNA technology, genetic and protein engineering, cell fusion, and gene cloning and expression.
