Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of all living organisms. Although living organisms share some unifying themes, such as their origin from the same basic cellular structure, and their molecular basis of inheritance, they are extremely diverse. As a biology student, you will look at such topics as origins, structure, function, reproduction, growth and development, and behaviour and evolution of different organisms. In addition, you will consider how living organisms interact with each other and the environment on an individual and group basis.

The Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Management is a 24 months post graduate diploma which does not only interest students with a background in business administration and management but also includes a wide variety of students from the fields of arts, science, medicine and engineering as well. The diploma deals with a number of subjects such as marketing, finance, accounting, economics as well as statistics. The course at CBU has a great faculty and well trained staff that guide students at every way.

During the first year of the program, students are introduced to the foundation subjects of business management such as management, accounting, economics, and public communications. The second year of the diploma includes more practical aspects of the diploma where students learn marketing, business finance as well as strategy. Students in the last year also have an opportunity to go for internships for 12 weeks and are required to complete a project with an organization. After graduating from the BDM course students can enter public sector, social sector as well as government services. The various areas of study include organizational behaviors as well as business decisions.

A legal studies concentration at CBU focuses on ensuring an understanding of legal risk identification and management. We offer courses that range from a formal introduction, to more specific and complex overview of the Canadian legal system.

Our practical approach to law equips students with real life skills through the legal studies concentration. Students will also have the ability to include some legal studies course offerings into their choice of major or concentration, or to complete a legal studies concentration.

Students at CBU can incorporate as many of the legal studies courses as their program allows. This provides the option to acquire a strong foundation in the substantive areas of employment, administrative, criminal, business, public health and legal research.

The  Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Advance Standing) Post Degree - Chemical program takes an applied approach to not only chemical processes, but instrumentation and sample analyses. With great relevance to other fields of study such as engineering and nanotechnology, medicine and dentistry, food sciences and environmental sciences, the Chemical Engineering Technology programs provide a gateway into many interesting and opportunity-filled careers.

Post Degree admissions will require a minimum of 50% of their BET degrees to be completed at CBU.  Therefore a maximum of 45-credits (15, one term courses) may be transferred from an appropriate program at an approved post-secondary institution to the 3-year, 90-credit BET (Chemical) and a maximum of 60-credits (20, one term courses) may be transferred from an appropriate program at an approved post-secondary institution to the 4-year, 120-credit BET (Advanced Chemical).

The supply chain management students’ helps students learn about the whole process of supply starting from manufacturing to the supplier and the retailer and eventually to the user. Studying a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Public Health) at CBU offers a unique opportunity to impact quality of life for everyone around you. With the knowledge and skills learned here, you gain the ability to make a difference in a real community using modern facilities, working alongside experienced faculty.

Specifically, the public health program at CBU focuses on environmental health. This segment of public health centres on keeping people healthy in the places they live, work and play. With an eclectic community coming from more than 40 countries collaborating and studying together in an island setting, health sciences in Cape Breton is a rich area for discovery.

Our program taps into the natural resources of our region, focusing on food safety, water and air quality, communicable disease control, and occupational health and safety. We currently offer three streams of our program.

Stream One is the four-year option that a student graduating from high school, or someone without post-secondary education, could take. Stream Two is an accelerated two-year option for students with a previous science degree or a similar degree/diploma. And Stream Three is an in-career option available only to military workers seeking a degree. These military workers must be certified by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
