The French Language and Literature Program at King’s is designed to foster an appreciation of the various literatures and cultures of la Francophonie as well as to develop a variety of skills that will serve you well in the future. We offer a range of language and literature courses to help you hone your language, communication, and research skills.

Our small classes provide an excellent opportunity for you to interact with your classmates and your professors. 

• Being able to speak French will open up career opportunities in teaching, business, government agencies as well as in many other sectors.
• Our students have the opportunity to spend the third year of their French program at the Université Catholique de Lille. Studying abroad can be a life-changing experience, a chance to see the world, to make new friends, and to learn to appreciate cultural differences.
• We have a free tutoring service for students having difficulties with French grammar or composition.
• Every year, two graduate students from the Université Catholique de Lille will help you improve your pronunciation and conversation skills in the language lab.
• You can join in extra-curricular activities such as French film nights and casual drop-in conversation hours to further enhance your French experience at King’s.

For what may I hope?” But, as Marx said, we do not just want to interpret the world, “The point is to change it.” Philosophy is not an empty debating-club; it is a militant project of profound social and political transformation.

Our Award-winning faculty are committed to helping acquaint students not only with knowledge of past, but also to helping them cultivate fundamental skills which are essential to success in any field: historical thinking, critical analysis, research methods, as well as effective verbal and written communications skills.

Foundations in the Humanities is an interdisciplinary approach to first-year studies that lets you explore the traditions of Western Civilization from three perspectives, in a fully synchronized program: History, Literature, and Philosophy. Youʼll study the great events that have shaped the world, the great ideas that have changed how we think, and the great books that have defined the human experience. Youʼll learn all those things you always wanted to know, and what you need to know to succeed.

Foundations in the Humanities is for motivated students who want to spend their entry-year reading, writing, thinking, and talking about important ideas, human possibilities, and universal knowledge. Above all, itʼs for someone like you: someone who has high expectations of yourself and of your school, who values small classes where you know everyoneʼs name, and who is looking for an intensive and challenging learning experience. Itʼs for those who want to improve not just themselves but the world.

Students in Sociology at King`s learn about all facets of the human condition from leaders in their fields in small class settings as they discuss the linkages between individual experiences with the wider society. Our students develop a range of analytic, computer and communication skills that enhance their employability while simultaneously developing an enriched understanding of the social, cultural and historical forces that have helped shape the modern world. Students will learn to appreciate the tension between individual agency and the social forces at play that constrain how human beings behave in all spheres of life. Such learning creates skills communicators, researchers, and analysts who can enter the working world as imaginative thinkers with concrete technical abilities writing expertise, and critical thinking skills that are vital to being successful professionals.

This program focuses on financial, economic and administrative theory with a social context.  Courses include traditional business studies as well as a strong foundation in the social sciences.  Finance & Administration can be combined with a Diploma in Accounting which is designed to enable students to complete the 51 credit hour requirement for the Chartered Accountancy practice and examinations.

This program focuses on the functioning of organizations and their most important resources: their employees. Courses will examine how companies operate as well as the importance of human resource management and how it relates to the effectiveness within an organization

Economics students may pursue a range of degree options. At King’s, the study of economics achieves a balance between application and theory. Through their program, students will develop a better understanding of the many human and moral issues confronting our society and the material constraints involved in dealing with those issues.

The School of Management, Economics, and Math (School of MEM) Economics department at King’s has had an exceptionally high success rate in placing students into top graduate programs around the world. Over 80% of our Honors Economics graduates have gone on to graduate studies. Many of our students have received generous financial support to do graduate work in Economics at London School of Economics, New York University, Cornell, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia and McGill University with a large number proceeding onto PhD studies and a career in Academia. We also have an extraordinary record of sending many others to top graduate business schools and top law schools in Canada and around the world. 

Disability Studies (DS) creates the space for rethinking traditional, medical approaches, to imagining disability, mental health and related social institutions, using a liberal arts lens to explore the variety of possible, yet uncommonly shared, meanings. We situate disability amidst contemporary, interdisciplinary debates and developments in research, policy and theory, illustrating how it touches all our lives in different spheres: family sports education, youth, workplace, art, war, aging, cultures and mobility.

The Thanatology program offers a wide variety of courses including an overview of bereavement and grief, ethical issues, palliative care, suicide, children and death, spiritual and philosophical issues, change and transition, popular culture, grief and trauma, and diversity and social justice. In addition, the undergraduate program offers a practicum course which includes a 45-hour field placement, and a grief counselling course which involves experiential learning of basic counselling skills.

King’s University College is currently the only university in North America to offer the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Thanatology. This unique program gives students several degree options in Thanatology with the option of combining a major or minor in a complementary subject (i.e., Childhood and Social Institutions, Social Justice and Peace Studies or Psychology). Many of our courses are available on-line, and our program incorporates various teaching modalities including in-class instruction, blended learning and experiential learning.
