At Nipissing you have the option to focus on one of our four streams: Policing, Corrections, Criminology or Criminal Justice Studies. Our flexible program is designed to give you a balanced combination of theory and practice. Through field placements, projects, and research, you will have opportunities to work alongside real criminal justice professionals.

As a student in the Policing stream, you will examine the criminal code, the young offenders system, and learn the skills and techniques you need for a successful career in policing. You will complete courses at both Nipissing University and Canadore College, and graduate with a college diploma and a university degree in just four years! Ethical reasoning and community policing are also key concepts in this stream.

The Bachelor of Commerce will prepare students for a career and life in general. It gives a wholesome approach to learning that gives students more than a degree. Along with core business knowledge, they will develop professional and social skills. The program’s combination of theoretical background, practical skills, real experience, and techniques to hone independent thinking and problem-solving skills will give graduates an advantage and a better chance of success in a competitive market.

At Nipissing, we combine a strong foundation of academic theory with an emphasis on research. That means you’ll not only learn through lectures, you’ll also spend a significant amount of your upper years ​completing your own research work, under the close supervision of a professor, which is an amazing opportunity for undergraduate students.

In your second year, use the knowledge and skills you’ve acquired, in a 60-hour community leadership experience. You may choose to participate in an international or domestic practicum arranged by Nipissing University or focus your interests closer to home within Ontario. Previous international and domestic locations have included Costa Rica, Kenya, France, and Trois Pistoles, Quebec. Experiences within Ontario have included placements in organizations such as museums, outdoor education centres, and correction centres. Whether teaching internationally or working with a local organization, you will get to explore the teaching and learning opportunities that exist outside of traditional classrooms.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Human Resource Management is a one year program designed for adult learners who have completed a bachelor-level degree, and who are looking for a pathway to professional employment in the human resources management profession.

In order to graduate with the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resource Management, students must obtain a minimum overall average of 60% on all courses presented for the diploma.  A minimum of 30 credits must be taken with Nipissing University to satisfy residency requirements.

Geography is the interdisciplinary study of our world, its physical characteristics like water, landforms, vegetation and climate as well as the relationships between people and the environment. You can choose between one of our three Geography degree options. The Bachelor of Arts in Geography provides a solid foundation in physical and human geography with a focus on the cultural, economic, political, and social influences. The Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Geography concentrates on the causes and effects of various environmental issues. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Physical Geography focuses on geography as an earth science and integrates mathematics, biology, geology, chemistry, and physics with geography-specific courses.

The Master of Science in Kinesiology (MSc) is a thesis-based degree program that offers students an opportunity to train in a world-class facility with state-of-the-art equipment and leading faculty researchers.

Areas of study can include topics broadly related to the natural health and physical sciences, such as biomechanics and ergonomics, exercise and environmental physiology, sensory-movement behaviour, physical activity and health promotion, coaching, and sport psychology. Graduate students are drawn to the School of Physical and Health Education to work with specific research faculty members and benefit from their expertise in specific content areas.

The MSc program operates using a mentor model. The benefits of a mentor model are numerous, including clarification of research and other funding support at time of application and focused supervision from the time of registration. The MSc program prepares graduates for further research training (e.g., doctoral and post-doctoral studies) and a broad range of careers in Kinesiology and related fields, such as medicine, health promotion, rehabilitation, sport, fitness, education, government, and industry.

As a student registered with any of the three major areas of study in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Nipissing University (AHVS, Studio, and Film), you will have access to unique research and exhibition opportunities that foster professional development through exciting and interactive collaborative ventures with senior artists, gallery owners and community leaders. Post-baccalaureate diploma will be of interest to students who have a non-business degree, and who want to return to university for one or two years to acquire a specialty in a functional area of business in order to enhance their employment opportunities. Students with a first degree in business, but who want to change their area of focus, may complete a post-baccalaureate diploma as well.

Post-baccalaureate diplomas are also valuable to international students who wish to come to Canada to learn English, gain exposure to the culture, and study in a compressed format. Many who do so have already studied business in their own country and have received transfer credit that reduces the length of the program.
