Child and Youth Care Workers try to improve the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of children and adolescents in troubled situations. Many of the children or youths experience multiple challenges or have been diagnosed as having multiple problems. Oulton Child and Youth Care Work program is designed to assist students to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to attain entry-level employment opportunities within the Child and Youth Care field.

The Oulton College Primary Care Paramedic Program will prepare you for a career dealing with high-intensity, fast-paced emergency situations.

Our Primary Care Paramedic program provides hands on practical experience and training in:

• Paramedical science, both practical and theoretical, giving the ability to deliver reflexive medical care.
• Human anatomy and physiology, gaining the knowledge necessary to assess the human body and its state of wellness.

What does a vet assistant do?

Veterinary Assistants often manage the day-to-day operations of a veterinary clinic, providing both customer assistance and patient care as part of their everyday duties.

Will I get to practice with hands-on training?

As with all courses at Oulton College, we make sure you have lots of time to practice the skills taught in the classroom. You’ll have a chance to put your knowledge to the test on sit at our Veterinary Clinic, learn to be comfortable working in a laboratory, and also take part in a four week practicum placement in a veterinary clinic. Our program will provide you with the hands-on training you require to work with Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians.

What will I learn?

In addition to skills development, you will also learn how to manage the day-to-day operations of a veterinary clinic.

The history of graduate success in this program is due in part to the emphasis that is placed on the development of skills that are valued by employers in this dynamic and expanding industry. Careers in the Travel and Hospitality fields are usually public-oriented careers. They require people who embrace technology and change. In addition, strong selling skills and excellent customer service skills are always in demand. 

Graduates may be employed as Travel agents, flight attendants, reservations specialists, conference and event planners, hotel management and many other exciting positions. Graduates can expect terrific career progression to positions in hotels and resorts, travel agencies, cruise ships, tourist attractions and in the food and beverage industry. Our Travel and Hospitality program is designed to prepare or re-train persons for initial employment in the field of travel counseling or the hospitality industry.

The Policing and Corrections program is designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge and skills required for employment opportunities in the fields of Policing, Security and Corrections. This is a unique one year in-depth program, which focuses on the fundamentals of Policing and Corrections. It is designed for students with a strong interest in the Criminal Justice System and the desire to serve the community as a law enforcement or correctional officer. The college recognizes the differences and similarities between the two distinct areas of study. However with the changing needs in the law enforcement community, students need to have more options.

Our Human Services Counselor Program provide hands-on practical experience and training in:

• Communications: basic counseling skills and techniques necessary to communicate appropriately with staff, clients, families and other human services care providers.

Beyond the work of a legal administrative assistant, as a paralegal, you can work with lawyers, crown prosecutors, judges, for federal and provincial courts, with justice departments, insurance companies, and real estate agencies in conducting legal research and helping to ensure the rule of law is upheld. With 18 years of experience in offering this program which is taught by a retired lawyer and a working paralegal, you will graduate with confidence that you possess the necessary skills to succeed in the legal profession.

Medical Laboratory Assistants’ primary role is clinical support. Medical Laboratory Assistants may work in hospital or clinic settings, in departments such as phlebotomy and specimen receiving, or work directly in specialized laboratories.
