Study for a career as an aircraft repair or structures technician, leading up to your Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license, through this program that teaches the modification and repair of aircraft, helicopters and their structural components.

The Aircraft Structures Technician program offers the student the knowledge and skills required to enter a career to become an aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) “S”. As an “S” licensed aircraft maintenance engineer, you will be responsible for the manufacture and repair of aircraft and aircraft components.

The Aircraft Structures Technician program covers all the aspects of aircraft structure repair to general aviation, corporate, charter, transport category aircraft, and helicopters. Training includes traditional aluminum sheet metal structure as well as advanced composite material manufacturing and repair.

The program is two semesters in length. All classes are scheduled at the Art Smith Aero Centre for Training and Technology, located at the Calgary International Airport.

Some of the courses in this program are web-based and will require the students to access information online. These courses are delivered in one of the two computer labs available at the Art Smith Aero Centre.

Accreditation
The program's accreditation is ongoing and subject to periodic audits from Transport Canada. To receive Transport Canada credit towards the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers "S" license, graduates who are in compliance with the required attendance (95%) and minimum marks of 70% receive 10 months credit towards the "S" Category AME license.

The Healthcare Leadership program focuses on the critical areas of leadership and management development specific to healthcare.

Learners will develop core skills and competencies in leadership and management, conflict management and resolution, people management, effective communications, finances and economics, service and patient focus, healthcare governance, performance measurement, and other elements of leadership in a healthcare environment.To correspond with current trends in healthcare leadership, the program will offer unique skills in the areas of resilience and emergency planning and preparedness.

This program is comprised of interdisciplinary study, culminating in a capstone project that enables students to apply their knowledge toward addressing leadership challenges in their own organizations. The Healthcare Leadership program is led by experienced healthcare and business instructors, blending health topics with strategic leadership studies that prepare students to navigate the rapidly changing field of healthcare.

Human Resource (HR) Management: graduate ready to add strategic value to organizations in recruitment, compensation, employee training and development, change management and navigating diversity. In this Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA)-accredited program, you are exempt from writing the national exam for your Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.

Create a career as a mechanical, civil, process piping, electrical or structural technologist. With hands-on learning and instruction you will gain the practical and technical experience focused on the principles of engineering and drafting.

The program provides graduates with the essential skills sought after by a variety of engineering enterprises. Your instructors will be experienced practitioners who will help you develop your technical and professional skills based on relevant practices. This diploma program is two years in length, consisting of four 15-week semesters.

Accreditation

• This program is nationally accredited, at the technologist level, by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) and Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC). Graduates are eligible for membership in the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals in Alberta (ASET).

The Architectural Technologies program is designed to enable graduates to be able to perform and manage the fundamental duties of a junior architectural technologist. This diploma program is two years in length, consisting of four 15-week semesters. In the fourth semester, you refine your skills in a comprehensive capstone project.

The Architectural Technology program is learner-centred. We believe that students learn best when they construct knowledge and meaning from a collaboration between their learning experiences and their ideas. This type of applied experiential education means the development of the hand and mind through innovation, relevant content, engaged instructors and students who want to create meaningful careers.

The program employs a Project-Based Learning (PBL) model. This means that the “single subject inputs and assignments all relate to, and support the project work.” In this model, the repeated practice of going through a problem enables you to build up a repertoire of significant experiences. A critical feature of the program the focus on blending the science and practice of architectural technology.

You will learn by undertaking projects that simulate and simplify work practices in an educational setting modelled in a real-world environment. It is a setting where you get to practice.

Semesters are typically organized around a manageable core or central project. These projects will involve both individual and group-based work. In both instances, collaborative learning and teaching are practised. In all cases, there is an emphasis on learning by doing.

This program will develop critical thinking skills through the practice of confronting uncertainty. It allows one to see unfamiliar situations as familiar and this, in turn, allows one to have a feel or approach to problems that do not conform to rules.

In the Chemical Laboratory Technology program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of chemistry and get hands-on experience using analytical instrumentation to analyze laboratory samples. Elligible students may also participate in a 12-month paid work placement program.
