he 4-Year BA allows flexibility of choice for students who want to sample a wide variety of courses; to develop a stronger understanding of language, literature, and culture; and to strengthen their reading and writing skills and their powers of critical thinking. This degree provides knowledge and practical skills that are assets in everyday life and in almost any career. Critical readers and writers are required in professions such as law, public service, business, medicine and politics. More directly, the study of English can lead to careers in teaching or careers that involve writing, such as news reporting, publishing, business advertising, and public relations.

Because this program offers much freedom of choice, it is important for students to think carefully about their interests and goals when choosing courses. The study of Geography is concerned with the Earth's surface in two ways - as the science of interaction between natural elements of the environment, such as weather, plants, soils and landforms; and secondly, as the science of the distribution and activities of the Earth's population in response to various social and environmental factors. Systematic studies in Geography examine the locations, distributions, arrangement, and association of a group of interrelated features. In contrast, regional studies examine the totality of geographic phenomena in a particular area. No matter what approach is taken, there are certain skills and techniques that are of particular geographic relevance.

As a reflection of the diversity that exists within the study of Geography and the special skills required, the Department offers courses within three fields of study - Cultural Geography, Physical Geography and Geomatics. You may attain either the General or Four-year Bachelor's degree in either Arts or Science, as well as the B.A. or B.Sc.Honours degree.

Geography offers a considerable variety of career opportunities. High schools require a continuing supply of Geography teachers. Various federal and provincial agencies dealing with conservation, town planning, recreation, landscape architecture and the utilization of Canada's resource also provide opportunities, especially to those with Honours or graduate work in Geography. Undergraduate training in the subject is often required for certain business careers, especially in surveying, market assessment, and location and general commercial development.

Women's and Gender Studies promotes an intersectional approach to understanding social problems and phenomena. It pays special attention to the ways sex, gender, and sexuality are shaped by colonialism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and transphobia, as well as by constructions of difference based on class, (dis)ability, religion, ethnicity, and culture. Our unique department brings these perspectives to the university, and represents feminism in the academy. In our classes, students of all genders and sexualities learn about feminist movements to end sexism, exploitation, and related social oppressions. The department encourages diversity among its students and in its curriculum, and offers the means to contribute to social change.
Currently, there is a demonstrated need for people with a background in Women's and Gender Studies to take up work in such areas as social services, education, policy development, welfare, health care, counselling and therapy, law, media, advertising, public administration, finance, and management.

From essential training in project management and business writing, to web security, information architecture, and network administration this program develops a complete skill set for IT professionals. Graduates gain experience with a wide variety of web programming technologies (including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and PHP programming.

OBJECTIVES

• Develop hands-on skills in web development applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, PHP, APS.net, and Java;
• Apply Adobe Photoshop to the visual design of Websites;
• Gain a solid understanding of best practices in search engine optimization (SEO);
• Create web pages in past, current, and emerging standards using HTML, XHTML, CSS, and XML
• Create rich multimedia files using Flash
• Use, edit and customize Dreamweaver and a variety of content management systems including Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla for agile web development purposes;
• Plan, design, and create relational database systems;
• Understand TCP/IP and Networking in general to help trouble shoot issues and design solutions to potential performance problems;
• Gain an understanding of security problems in order to install, set-up, and secure a Web server.

The Applied Computer Science major is designed to prepare students in the following core areas: Programming Fundamentals (object-oriented, event driven, algorithms), Information Management (database systems, data modeling, data warehousing, relational databases, query languages), Software Engineering (software requirements and design, software process, software project management), Operating Systems, Net-Centric Computing (Internet programming, networks, security), Human Computer Interaction (GUI Design and Programming), Intelligent Systems (Machine Learning). Our team-oriented courses are meant to strengthen communication skills, experience group dynamics, and foster self-confidence. The 4-year major includes the development of a team-based software project for a local IT organization. Our program will help develop analytical thinking and applied skills by blending theoretical and practical aspects of computer science. The Applied Computer Science major is designed to provide an excellent basis for graduate studies in either computer science or applied computing.

PACE offers the Marketing Management Diploma Program in a full-time, two-year format which includes a 4-week internship.

If you enjoy thinking about life’s big questions, you might be a natural philosopher. Philosophy engages in disciplined and imaginative thinking about the philosophical questions common to all humans by studying the works of great philosophers. Through analysis and discussion, you’ll learn how to think critically, and understand the origins of the ideas that influence us today.

Philosophy is literally the love of wisdom. Rather than studying a particular aspect of human history or culture, philosophy takes a step back and tries to understand the nature of all inquiry. Students of philosophy examine fundamental beliefs about who we are and the world we live in – beliefs most people take to be true but never examine systematically and critically. Philosophers consider such questions as: What is the meaning of life? How should I live my life? Why be moral? What is the best form of government? Are human beings immortal? Does God exist? What is knowledge? Does the world appear to us as it really is? What makes something right, or good, or beautiful?

If coming to an understanding of the human condition is the goal of a liberal arts education, then philosophy is essential to it. But philosophy also has a practical side, which we see whenever we debate social and political questions concerning the environment and our obligations to future generations, the distribution of wealth and opportunity in society, gender equity, the relationship between science and religion, and so on. Philosophy helps us to identify and defend what is most valuable to us.

The UW Philosophy Program prides itself on being small and student-focused; this is a place where you can work closely with professors and other students in small classes, reading great philosophers from the past, and thinking and writing about the big questions.

We have an excellent record of placing our students in graduate programs in Canada and the United States as well as overseas.

Student will study the interrelationship between human physiology and anatomy with respect to movement. The exercise science degree includes the understanding of the integration of structure and function of the human systems (e.g. musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, etc.) and the changes or adaptations causes by physical activity/exercise. 

The Information Systems (IS) stream is aimed at students interested in focusing on information and business needs of IT industry. The new stream is intended to prepare students in information oriented courses, and also in system and Internet based technologies. Sample courses include: Internet programming, database design and development, software requirements and design, telecommunications, business application systems and eCommerce. One advantage of this stream is that students can easily combine this stream as a double major with another department for a Bachelors degree in arts or science.
