nternational Development Studies (IDS) is an interdisciplinary major that challenges students to explore the causes and consequences of processes that promote some individuals, communities, and nations, and exclude others. IDS students are prepared for citizenship in an increasingly interdependent global community and are encouraged to envision paths towards a transformed, just world.

The IDS program focuses on development processes at the global, national and community levels, but gives particular emphasis to development at the community level and to the work of non-governmental organizations and popular movements.

IDS is offered jointly by Menno Simons College and the University of Winnipeg. An IDS major can be taken alone or it can be effectively combined with another program at The University of Winnipeg, such as Anthropology, Conflict Resolution Studies, Economics, Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Politics, or Sociology.

Women's and Gender Studies seeks to foster awareness and appreciation of the realities and diverse experiences of women. You’ll develop critical consciousness of social inequalities affecting women, including those based on gender, age, race, class, disability and sexual orientation.

The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  The four-year degree is equivalent to a Bachelor of Commerce at other Canadian universities.

The four-year BBA allows students the option of completing the program under the General Stream or choosing one of four Subject Specific Concentrations.  The four concentrations are: Accounting, Marketing, International Business and Human Resource Management & Organizational Behaviour. 

Under the General Stream, the program requires students to complete 120 credit hours, 57 of which are in Business and Administration.  The total hours requirement is the same for students pursuing a specific concentration, however the Business and Administration component of the degree increases to 66 credit hours. 

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration (4 years):-

The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  In the four-year program, you can (and many students do) elect to take a 'general stream' degree, which allows maximum flexibility for course selection. Other students elect to narrow their studies into their choice of five Areas of Concentration:

• Marketing
• International Business
• Co-operative Enterprises
• Accounting
• Human Resource Management & Organisational Behaviour

It is not unusual for students to pursue two Concentrations simultaneously (e.g., Marketing and International Business) in our four-year program.

panish is a language that has more native speakers than any other except Chinese. Belonging to the Romance language family which also includes French, Italian and Portuguese, Spanish derived from Latin but was heavily influenced by Arabic during the occupation of Spain which lasted from 711 to 1492. As Spanish spread throughout the New World starting in the fifteenth century, it underwent numerous changes through contact with indigenous peoples and developed various regional varieties and dialects. Today, it is spoken in many parts of the world including Spain, Latin America (Mexico, Argentina, Chile...), the Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico) and north Africa (Ceuta, Melilla). The majority of Spanish speakers are found outside of Spain and many make their home in the United States or Canada.

As the number of Spanish speakers continues to increase, so do the career opportunities in Spanish as a language for international business, trade and law, tourism, immigration and the foreign service, global, national and community development with both governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as journalism, translation and teaching. In all of these fields, learning Spanish gives you a competitive edge.

Along with the language, you will gain the cultural awareness and understanding that is needed in today’s global community. The courses that we offer, through the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, will help you to develop your communication skills and your critical thinking skills - a must in order to grasp the subtleties of interacting with different cultures. In our courses, you will deepen your understanding of Hispanic culture through the analysis of texts from the Internet and the media as well as through the study of films and literature.

Whether Spanish is your first or second language or one of several that you speak, studying Spanish at the UW will be a rewarding and enriching experience that will give you an edge, whatever career path you choose.

Are you interested in issues affecting our environment? Environmental Studies and Sciences combines many different perspectives to understand the changes in our environment, while acknowledging human impacts and providing a framework to develop solutions for environmental programs. You can choose your course of study from six different subject areas including Chemistry, Forest Ecology, Forest Policy and Management, Global Environmental Systems, Issues in Sustainability, and Urban Environments.

Forest Policy and Management:- study of forest ecology and biology, with a focus on the administrativeand cultural practices and the role of stakeholders in forest policy and management

Student will study the interrelationship between human physiology and anatomy with respect to movement. The exercise science degree includes the understanding of the integration of structure and function of the human systems (e.g. musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, etc.) and the changes or adaptations causes by physical activity/exercise. 

Chemists are at the forefront of unravelling the mysteries of the most complex chemical systems. If you’re interested in understanding the structure of matter and how it behaves on a molecular level, you may be drawn to the field of chemistry. In Applied Chemistry, you can choose from either a traditional program or a co-operative option that integrates academic studies with 12 months of paid work experience in chemistry-related positions.

The study of Geography is concerned with the Earth's surface in two ways - as the science of interaction between natural elements of the environment, such as weather, plants, soils and landforms; and secondly, as the science of the distribution and activities of the Earth's population in response to various social and environmental factors. Systematic studies in Geography examine the locations, distributions, arrangement, and association of a group of interrelated features. In contrast, regional studies examine the totality of geographic phenomena in a particular area. No matter what approach is taken, there are certain skills and techniques that are of particular geographic relevance.

As a reflection of the diversity that exists within the study of Geography and the special skills required, the Department offers courses within three fields of study - Cultural Geography, Physical Geography and Geomatics. You may attain either the General or Four-year Bachelor's degree in either Arts or Science, as well as the B.A. or B.Sc.Honours degree

Geography offers a considerable variety of career opportunities. High schools require a continuing supply of Geography teachers. Various federal and provincial agencies dealing with conservation, town planning, recreation, landscape architecture and the utilization of Canada's resource also provide opportunities, especially to those with Honours or graduate work in Geography. Undergraduate training in the subject is often required for certain business careers, especially in surveying, market assessment, and location and general commercial development.
