Why earn a Certificate in Aboriginal Governance and Partnership?

• This program partners with over 30 Indigenous communities and organizations to provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, organizations, businesses, and governments on issues relating to Indigenous governance.
• This program can be earned as part of an undergraduate or graduate degree, or through community-based programming.

Why the Faculty of Native Studies?

• We are the only independent Faculty of Native Studies in Canada, with small class sizes and a diverse student population of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.
• We are student-centered, with a close-knit community of students, professors, and staff. We host regular Tea and Bannock potlucks, an annual tipi raising and take-down, and Games Night with the Dean.
• We are research-focused, with opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research projects. Our courses incorporate traditional Indigenous knowledge and heritage as well as contemporary Indigenous experiences.

Why study Petroleum Engineering? (Co-operative)

Petroleum Engineering is more than just oil and gas: in addition to energy, petroleum-based products such as plastics are key components of virtually every consumer product and medical device we use.

Petroleum engineers apply scientific understanding and technology in the extraction and management of hydrocarbon resources while also exploring ways to preserve and protect the environment.

For the past five decades, the University of Alberta has offered the only accredited BSc Petroleum Engineering degree program in Canada. Situated in Canada's primary oil and natural-gas producing region, we offer our students a distinct advantage by providing numerous research opportunities within the petroleum industry.

Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!

Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

The Honors in Mathematics program exposes you to the underlying beauty of mathematics. It will appeal to you if you are fascinated by abstraction, logic, symmetry, and studying mathematics for the sake of mathematics itself. Most pure mathematicians find employment in universities and research institutions, although an increasing number also branch out into commercial sectors such as finance and the computer industry.

• Mathematics can also be taken as part of a BSc General or BSc with Specialization degree.

Why study Animal Science?
This program examines the scientific aspects of animals and livestock, including physiology, genetics, biochemistry, nutrition and behaviour. Youâll gain knowledge and practical skills in animal production systems including dairy, swine, beef, poultry, and diversified livestock.

Why study Agriculture at the University of Alberta?
Our Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree in the Faculty  of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences will prepare you for a successful career in a range of agriculture-related industries. Areas of study include plant and animal biology, the role of biotechnology in society, and environmentally sustainable approaches to land use and management.

The Food Science Honors program is a specialized, research-based program examining topics such as Food Microbiology, Clinical Nutrition, and Foodborne Pathogens. This program prepares you for graduate-level studies, or for a career in the food industry, scientific research, applied research, and product development in the private and public sectors.

Why take the BSc Honors program?

• The BSc Honors program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences is a more specialized and research-intensive degree, and is a good choice to prepare for graduate-level study in either Nutrition or Food Science. It requires a higher standard of academic achievement for both admission and ongoing performance.

This program examines the relationships between science and economics in the agri-food sector. From agricultural and resource economics to animal, plant, and soil sciences, this program gives you both the business skills and the scientific understanding needed to succeed in this global industry.

• Areas of focus include techniques in Drawing, Media and Colour, Composition, Expression, Design, and Art History.

Our Secondary Education program in the Faculty of Education prepares you to pass on your love of learning and discovery in almost any subject to students in grades 7-12. You’ll choose two areas of specialization — a major and minor — allowing you to pursue your passion and customize your experience.

The Secondary Education program includes a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). You will typically teach in your Major subject in both your IPT and APT.

This degree is normally taken as a four-year program but can also be taken as an after-degree. Upon completion of this program, you will be recommended for teacher certification in Alberta.

Why study Music? (Secondary Education)

Do you dream of becoming a Music teacher? Music (Wind Band) can be taken as a major or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education.

Areas of focus include Instrumental Ensemble, Aural and Keyboard Skills, Music Theory, Woodwind Techniques, Brass Techniques, Percussion Techniques, Choral Techniques and Pedagogy, Band Techniques, and Conducting.

You can also take this major as part of a Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Education combined degree.
