Our Geology degree is certified by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) and includes a number of field placements, which give important hands-on training to supplement the knowledge taught in classrooms.

Why study Chemistry? (Honors)

Our Honors Chemistry degree is a structured program designed to train professional chemists whose knowledge can be applied to all industries. The Honors program provides our highest level of specialized training and includes a chemical research component under the direction of a member of the department. This opportunity for research and mentorship makes it the ideal path for further advanced education in Chemistry. Our breadth of courses, laboratory training, internship, and research opportunities give you all the resources you need to stand out from the crowd and take your education in new directions.

This program is accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry.

Program Description:-

• Do you dream of becoming an Art teacher? Art can be taken as a major or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education.
• Areas of focus include techniques in Drawing, Media and Colour, Composition, Expression, Design, and Art History.

Teaching is a calling, and we are dedicated to helping you become the homeroom teacher that your students will remember for a lifetime. Our Secondary Education program in the Faculty of Education prepares you to pass on your love of learning and discovery in almost any subject to students in grades 7-12. You’ll choose two areas of specialization — a major and minor — allowing you to pursue your passion and customize your experience.

The Secondary Education program includes a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). You will typically teach in your Major subject in both your IPT and APT.

This degree is normally taken as a four-year program but can also be taken as an after-degree. Upon completion of this program, you will be recommended for teacher certification in Alberta.

This program is designed to provide a strong education in the areas of mathematics, finance, economics and actuarial science. Graduates of our program can apply mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze financial products and manage financial risk.

Why study Physics? (Specialization program)

Our Physics Specialization program is designed to build a strong background in numerous areas of modern physics, covering topics from mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism to areas like laser spectroscopy, optics, electronics and more. The Specialization degree has a structured curriculum that provides a focused education while also allowing you to direct the degree towards a chosen sub-field of physics.

Physics can also be taken as part of a BSc General or BSc with Honors degree.

This is an interactive, hands-on four-year degree program that will prepare you for a range of careers dealing with animal health. It a great option for completing your pre-veterinary medicine requirements.

• Join the Agrology profession (Alberta Institute of Agrologists) and take a leadership role as a professional agrologist in Alberta.
• Join students in the Northern ENCS Program and spend a semester at Yukon College in Whitehorse, getting hands on experience and credit towards your degree.

BSc Environmental Conservation/BA Native Studies
Learn how Aboriginal history, politics, and cultural values influence natural resource management. Graduate with two degrees in five years—Bachelor of Science in Environmental & Conservation Science and Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies .

Conservation Biology
Apply the principles of biology, ecology, social science, economics, and statistics to the conservation of species and landscapes.

Environmental Economics & Policy
Develop skills in the economics analysis and policy process associated with environmental issues.

Human Dimensions of Environmental Management
Use collective action, institutions, policy and management to address challenges in environmental/ natural resource management.

Land Reclamation
Develop the natural and social sciences to understand, assess, and minimize the impacts of human activities on natural resources, with an emphasis on soil, plant and water health.

Northern Systems
Develop solutions to issues such as global climate change, decreasing non-renewable energy resources, land use, changes in water quantity and quality, and wildlife conservation. Gain insight into northern and native studies content, reflecting northern environmental, economic, and social contexts.

Wildlife & Rangeland Management
Learn to manage soil, plant, and animal relationships on both private and public lands. Gain an understanding of grazing, intensive agriculture, forestry, and recreational activities.

The Food Science Honors program is a specialized, research-based program examining topics such as Food Microbiology, Clinical Nutrition, and Foodborne Pathogens. This program prepares you for graduate-level studies, or for a career in the food industry, scientific research, applied research, and product development in the private and public sectors.

Why take the BSc Honors program?

• The BSc Honors program in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences is a more specialized and research-intensive degree, and is a good choice to prepare for graduate-level study in either Nutrition or Food Science. It requires a higher standard of academic achievement for both admission and ongoing performance.

Economics studies how a society manages, produces, and distributes its wealth. By studying economics, you will develop analytical skills to help you evaluate the costs and benefits associated with any action. You will be exposed to a blend of theory and methodology courses that will help you learn the analytical tools necessary to evaluate and solve complex problems. You will learn from a faculty that is dedicated to teaching and has one of the strongest research records in the country.

This major can also be taken as part of a BA Honors degree.

Why study Second Languages? (Secondary Education)

• Do you dream of becoming a language teacher? We offer instruction in several popular languages that can be taken as a major and/or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. For each language major, emphasis is placed not only on basic speaking and writing skills but also on an understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of that language.
• Available language majors are Cree, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Other.*
