The Bachelor of Science General degree offers a wide variety of majors and minors, allowing you to create a diversified degree based on your interests. Majors must be in Science, but minors can also be from courses offered by Arts; Business; or Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences. You can also take a double major in Science.

Why study Physical Sciences?

• This program allows you to study topics in both chemistry and physics, then branch out in the direction that suits you best. You can choose from a wide breadth of courses in astronomy, biochemistry, chemistry, geophysics, mathematical physics, and physics, giving you the ability to pursue a truly customizable and interdisciplinary degree.
• Physical Sciences can only be taken as part of a BSc General degree or BSc/BEd Combined degree. This major can be taken with a Business minor.

Accounting is the practice of gathering, analyzing, and communicating financial information, and is a crucial aspect of every business and organization. Anyone who wants to be successful in business must have a strong understanding of “the numbers," so whether you are interested in accounting specifically, or financial management in general, you should consider the Accounting major.

To pursue a career in accounting, you can follow your BCom degree with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) certification.

Why study Mining Engineering?

Most resources that cannot be grown or harvested need to be extracted from the Earth by mining engineers. Mining engineers are involved in every aspect of resource extraction, applying science and technology to plan, design, manage, and optimize mining and mineral projects around the world.

The Mining Engineering program at the University of Alberta is the biggest of its kind in Canada, offering a broad-based program covering subjects ranging from surface and underground mining to physical and mathematical sciences. Our graduates are well equipped to compete and succeed in a variety of careers in industry and government.

Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!

Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

This combined program allows you to complete two degrees from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education — a Bachelor of Science (with Specialization) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) — in just five years, preparing you to become a high school or junior high teacher in your area of expertise.

Why study Computing Science?

Our computing programs highlight the interdisciplinary nature of computing and offer the flexibility to combine studies in computing science with other areas of study. Through the General program, you’ll acquire the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to create innovative solutions for a wide range of challenges.

Our CS department has expertise in several exciting areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Multimedia and Computer Games, Software and Database systems, and Machine Learning and Bioinformatics. Together, we are changing how computing science is being taught.

Computing Science can also be taken as part of a BSc with Specialization or a BSc with Honors.

Why study Second Languages? (Secondary Education)

• Do you dream of becoming a language teacher? We offer instruction in several popular languages that can be taken as a major and/or minor as part of a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. For each language major, emphasis is placed not only on basic speaking and writing skills but also on an understanding and appreciation of the history and culture of that language.
• Available language majors are Cree, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Ukrainian, or Other.*
• *It may be possible to arrange a program for a language other than those listed here, provided it is offered in the school system. Please contact the Second Languages Advisor before you apply.

The Honors in Mathematics program exposes you to the underlying beauty of mathematics. It will appeal to you if you are fascinated by abstraction, logic, symmetry, and studying mathematics for the sake of mathematics itself. Most pure mathematicians find employment in universities and research institutions, although an increasing number also branch out into commercial sectors such as finance and the computer industry.

Students are also able to explore disciplines offered in other University of Alberta faculties through program electives providing a well rounded degree. The BCom program provides students with a basis for self-learning through actual experience and the opportunity to develop comprehensive analytical skills.

Marketing
The Marketing major at the Alberta School of Business is built on the strength of our faculty's world-class research in the areas of retailing, market research, and consumer behavior.
Marketing is a crucial aspect for any organization: large or small, profit or not-for-profit, wholesaler or retailer. Acting as a link to customers, marketing provides external perspective, steers innovation and growth, and drives revenue, value, and loyalty. Marketers ensure that organizations understand customers and society.

This program introduces Honors Mathematics students to the fundamental principles, philosophy, and origins of statistics and probability theory. It allows you to broaden your portfolio of interests and transfer your theoretical skills to the discipline of statistics.

This program can only be taken as part of a BSc with Honors degree.

In today's business environment, it is crucial that those in management positions develop the analytical and interpersonal skills necessary to keep up with rapidly changing world.
The Strategic Management and Organization (SMO) major focuses on human-centric courses and topics, preparing you to work more effectively with people and within organizations.
You'll learn how effective managers think and act in a range of enterprises: public, not-for-profit, and for profit business enterprises. You'll develop the diagnostic skills to enable you to understand, analyze, and solve problems in organizations, as well as the opportunity to develop your leadership, social, and interpersonal skills.
