The Art History program offers students an opportunity to consider, in a cultural context, both Western and non-Western artistic traditions with an emphasis on the former from the Renaissance to the present. While all courses acknowledge methodological issues, the program also offers courses in art theory and criticism at the second and third-year levels. Students enrolled in this program broaden their knowledge of art production with studio electives.

The BFA Honours degree allows you to complete an additional year of study including art history and optional studio electives.

To transfer into the honours program, you must first successfully complete 69 credit hours of study in the Art History general program, with a degree GPA of 2.5. If you are a current student and wish to transfer to the BFA Art History honours program,

Join the only Indigenous Business Studies major of its kind in Canada. Gain a better understanding of the economic landscape and business opportunities with Indigenous partners.

Students who major in Indigenous Business Studies will gain a better understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and their role in economic development.

Course offerings are drawn from Native Studies, Faculty of Arts and Asper School of Business and feature Indigenous peoples, culture, history, and organizations.

Students who obtain a major in Indigenous Business Studies complemented with any other Asper major will have a competitive advantage when they seek employment. As the importance of working with Indigenous organizations becomes a priority as an act of reconciliation, your studies will set you apart from other candidates. This major is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.

The Geological Sciences or Earth Sciences are multidisciplinary sciences that apply principles from many different fields to deal with all aspects of the solid Earth and its interactions with the hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and Solar System. Quantitative data is provided through fieldwork, laboratory analysis and theoretical modeling for understanding the physical, chemical and biological behaviour and characteristics of Earth materials – rocks, minerals, fossils, liquids and gases. Once the nature and extent of the Earth’s natural evolution is understood and quantified, as well as the more recent environmental impact of human activity, they can help tackle many resource extraction, mineral processing and environmental problems, and predict future changes to the Earth.

The Faculty of Science provides excellent training in scientific areas. The Bachelor of Science General degree provides breadth and depth of scientific understanding and comprises introductory Science courses and upper level Science courses from two departments of your choice. This is a flexible degree program – students can switch to a Major or Honours program at any point in their studies (subject to eligibility) and is a great preparation for further study in professional faculties, such as Medicine.

The Judaic Studies program warmly welcomes Jewish and non-Jewish scholars and students. The program offers fascinating insights into the societies and cultures Jewish people have been part of from Biblical times to twenty-first century Canada. Judaic Studies promotes the study of Jewish civilization, Jewish religious expressions and traditions, and of Jewish cultural, social, and political formations and movements in all their variety. For Jewish students, Judaic Studies is a way of exploring their heritage and building on previous study of Jewish languages, history and texts.

Geography is a broad synthesizing discipline that studies humans and the Earth by focusing on the themes of place and space. Geography is therefore not an encyclopedic listing of capital cities, mountains and rivers, but rather an understanding of the causes, effects, implications, and importance of these and other features. As Geography is so broad, it is often studied as a number of separate but closely related sub-disciplines, notably physical geography and human geography, and also regional geography (Area Studies), topical geography and geographic techniques (Geomatics).

Agroecology specializes in the management and conservation of our natural and agricultural resources. Agroecologists develop environmentally friendly weed, insect and disease controls and also help farmers conserve their land and protect Canada’s wildlife and water supply. 

The Bachelor of Science (Agroecology) is the ideal program for students with a passion for our planet. Students will learn the biological and physical components of ecosystems, and how to achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, you must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

The study of economics helps us understand our world: wages and employment, economic growth, productivity, wealth and poverty, government budgets and taxation, resource exploitation, business practices, inflation, recession, regional economic differences. In the undergraduate program in economics we study the history and current reality of these issues, and the principles and techniques necessary to gain a sound understanding of the choices and problems facing us during our lifetime. Students earning a general BA degree in economics can take a wide variety of economics courses while still pursuing interests in other fields. The advanced BA degree in Economics provides greater specialization. The Honours program is intellectually stimulating and offers smaller third and forth year classes.
