General Information
Cognitive neuroscience is a multi-disciplinary study of the neurological underpinnings of cognitive activity. Cognitive Neuroscience brings in perspectives from Psychology, Linguistics, Philosophy, Mathematics, and Computer Science to tackle the complex area of the neurological basis of cognition.

Politics is everywhere – in boardrooms, school yards, community halls, neighbourhoods, and in settlements all around the world.

At the heart of the Politics program at UNB’s Saint John campus is the discussion of political power, institutions, and practice. You’ll be examining how and why the government makes its decisions and how those decisions affect our social, cultural, legal, and economic landscape.

Four major fields of study include Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory.

Anthropologists study humans: who we are, what we do, what we say, what we look like, and what we believe in.

At UNB, Anthropology is a holistic discipline, meaning you’ll examine humans, both past and present, as biological, cultural, and social beings. You’ll explore three central subfields – sociocultural anthropology, archeology, and biological anthropology – and you’ll have access to our expanded lab facility that includes a vast collection of human, hominid, and primate teaching specimens.

We use a range of learning styles and innovative teaching methods, and we incorporate findings from our research. Our small class sizes mean greater interaction between you, your instructors, and your peers.

Every corner of the world has its poets, its novelists, its chroniclers. Comparative Literature at UNB attempts to understand the cultural and linguistic differences that separate them.

You’ll study literature across national borders, time periods, and languages and genres. You’ll read literatures in translation and discuss the implications of taking a literary text from one language to another. You’ll also learn how a broad understanding of world literature can help us grasp the unity of humankind through texts, while exploring the relationship between literature and other disciplines.

How is crude oil refined for use as heating fuel or as a lubricant? Ask a chemical engineer. Chemical engineers monitor air and water quality and construct and operate equipment that processes materials into desired products.

UNB Saint John's undergraduate program in chemical engineering provides a broad background in chemistry, physics, and mathematics and detailed knowledge of chemical engineering principles.

University of New Brunswick Saint John BBA students who major in the Electronic Commerce Program are introduced to the relationship between business and networked on-line commerce.

Whether you are interested in marketing, accounting, process design, operations, strategy, human resources, or organizational change, success in today’s business environment depends on the ability to take advantage of e-business strategies.

UNB Saint John is a leader in the field of Electronic Commerce, and will equip students for positions in traditional firms and new technology startups, or give them the skills to start their own businesses. Geology is the study of the Earth, its origin, structure and composition. Rocks are a key component of our landscape. They give us clues as to how and when it formed, and the materials it contains.

Their structures help unravel the secrets of what the Earth was like in the past. To a geologist, our modern-day landscape speaks volumes.

The goal of geology as a science is to better understand the processes that acted upon the Earth’s system in the past to help us foresee how geologic events and processes will affect us in the future.

Many of us don’t take the time and stop to think about just how much geology affects our surroundings. Geology encompasses many parts of the Earth's system. In studying about the Earth’s origins and evolution, you will learn about the formation of the planet, how the continents and oceans are formed and how they grow or are destroyed, and how all this was discovered. By studying fossils, you'll learn how our climate has changed over time and what that means for our environment.

You will learn about minerals, how they form and grow, and under what conditions this happens. We explore how minerals come together and form rocks, and examine how looking at a rock tells you something about the environment in which it formed. We will talk about volcanoes, landslides, earthquakes, glaciers, deserts and rivers - all of which shape the surface of the planet.

At the University of New Brunswick Saint John, we teach first-year courses in the geology and geo-engineering programs. Some second year courses are also available with an emphasis on paleontology and the environment, of particular interest to biology students.

The study of English is about the appreciation of language at work.  English students explore the impact and possibilities of words as they form into narratives and speak through characters to wider cultural communities at home and across the globe. 

English offers creative inspiration and critical thinking skills while empowering students to become highly literate in a society that values communication.

We will help develop your analytical and communication skills; studying literature will refine your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, as well as cultivate your love of literature.  Through in-class discussions and seminar presentations, you’ll build strategies for public speaking. 

As an effective communicator, you’ll excel in any professional environment and bring a wealth of verbal, analytical, and written strengths to every team dynamic.

Hands-on learning

• Internship: use your knowledge to shape the community by applying for an unpaid, for-credit internship. You’ll work directly with local organizations and non-profits, including the Charlotte Street Arts Centre and the New Brunswick Film Co-op.

History is about people, the famous and the infamous, the daring and the dutiful, who through their actions and ideas left their mark on the past.

The History program at UNB is about both the past and the present. It’s about understanding how the past has shaped the world as we know it now. The program explores the interconnections between economics, nationalism, science, religion, politics, and popular culture, and how each has influenced local, regional, and world events.

You’ll have small, interactive classes, led by knowledgeable instructors, where you can easily interact and debate with instructors and colleagues.

Learning the French language provides a wealth of opportunities for your future career and ignites a passion for culture, creativity, and expression. The Department of French welcomes students who wish to learn and perfect the language as well as pursue their studies in literature and linguistics.

We offer a range of courses in French Canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on Acadian and Québécois writers, as well as other Francophone literatures (i.e. France, Belgium, etc.).

Our linguistics courses explore the various expressions across French Canada. We also emphasize the phenomenon of human communication and how language shapes experience.
