In Linguistics you gain a better understanding of the function of language in society and develop the skills essential for exciting careers in language pathology/audiology, language teaching, speech recognition and artificial intelligence, forensics, translation, interpretation, publishing and many others.

What you will learn
You will learn how language functions in the lives of individuals, groups, and societies. You will study the basic nature of human language such as speech sounds, characteristics of word and sentence structure, geographical and historical variation of languages and dialects. You will learn about the cognitive aspects of language in child language development, language processing, language learning, writing, and reading.

Chemical engineers – also known as process engineers – are practical chemists who solve problems or create useful products. They research, design, and develop chemical processes and equipment while seeking to reduce our impact on the environment.

Agribusiness comes into play at every stage in the food chain, from primary production to the packaging of your favourite snack food. It is also a dynamic business that must respond to advances in technology, changes in trade and policy and to an ever-changing, consumer-driven marketplace.

What you will learn
You will learn about business management, economics, marketing, finance and sales, as well as the legal and institutional environment that characterize agribusiness. You will study the structure and organization of the agri-food sector and develop business skills relevant to farm input, on-farm businesses, processing, transportation, credit and marketing.

Discover your true potential as a musician, teacher, composer or music theorist. Develop your abilities with individual private lessons in applied study on piano, voice, brass, winds, strings or percussion with nationally and internationally trained instructors.

What you will learn
You will study performance, composition, music theory, history and literature, and you will participate in ensembles. You will develop advanced skills with applied study in piano, voice, brass, winds, strings or percussion. You will examine the history of music which will provide you with a rich perspective into music, composers’ lives and their contributions to musical traditions, styles, genres and forms of composition.

Advance knowledge and understanding of human diversity and adaptation — past, present, and future — while seeking answers to the most vexing issues and problems affecting our species and our planet

What you will learn
Anthropology is the comprehensive study of human beings, past and present, in comparative, cross-cultural, and holistic light. Archaeology is a sub-discipline of Anthropology that focuses on the study of artifacts and other physical remains of past peoples in order to explore adaptation and cultural diversity over time. The Archaeology and Anthropology program at the University of Saskatchewan offers training that emphasizes the role of culture in past and present human behaviour and diversity, and that exposes students to human evolutionary, environmental, and social development and adaptation. The program demonstrates particular expertise in medical anthropology, environmental anthropology, applied (practicing) anthropology, anthropological archaeology, environmental archaeology, and bioarchaeology. We emphasize community-based and engaged learning, a commitment to reconciliation, and a broad disciplinary foundation in both anthropology and archaeology.

Mechanical engineers focus on how things work and see the world as parts in motion. They research, design and develop products ranging from massive engines and turbines to microscopic medical devices.

In this professional program, you'll transcend disciplinary boundaries to manage complex problems and address sustainability challenges from the local to the global context. You'll develop your professional skills and address real-world issues by working with a public, private or not-for-profit partner organization as you complete the degree requirements with an applied project.

Regenerative Sustainability: The mission of the Regenerative Sustainability stream is to empower our graduates to catalyze positive, transformative, changes in socio-ecological systems by engaging with the latest developments in sustainability thinking and practice.

Students are challenged to think outside the boundaries of traditional disciplinary programs to address environmental and sustainability challenges with regional, national, and international significance. These programs expose graduate students to a variety of unique environmental learning and research experiences and help nurture students to become critical thinkers capable of addressing pressing challenges associated with environmental change and sustainability.

Crop scientists contribute to global food security by increasing local and global food production, developing new crop varieties, and protecting plants from disease and environmental stresses. Discover alternatives to traditional cropping systems and learn to improve the quality and nutrition of crops that feed the world.

What you will learn
Crop Science is the study of agricultural issues and challenges, including:

• Resource use consistent with sustainable production of food, feed, fibre and fuel
• Production, processing and marketing of high quality food and non-food products

• Development and implementation of innovative and efficient production
• Processing and marketing systems.

Crop Science integrates a broad range of disciplines, including genetics, pathology, crop quality and biotechnology, leading to the development of superior varieties of horticulture and field crops.

Electircal engineers design and manage power systems, communications networks and electronic products. They work on the electrical and electronic equipment and systems that are transforming our way of life.

Gain a broader understanding of different cultures, the literature of their area and the structure and functioning of languages through linguistics. With globalization progressing at a rapid speed, dealing with people from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds will become increasingly important, both in our professional and personal lives.

What you will learn
You will be combining two (or more) languages in conjunction with courses in linguistics and comparative literature. You will gain a broader understanding of different cultures, the literature of your chosen area and the structure and functioning of languages through linguistics. The primary language course options include French, German and Spanish.
