Microbiology is the study of living organisms and infectious agents that can’t be seen by the naked eye. You explore the role of microorganisms across many areas – human health, industry, agriculture and the environment.

You develop the skills for careers in a wide variety of settings in industry, research or government organisations. Graduates of the Microbiology major could also be involved with the industries that produce antibiotics, foods and drinks, or alternative fuels.

Today's consumers have many viewing choices, and TV and screen production professionals have to be versatile, adaptable, creative and technically competent to succeed.

You develop the practical skills to produce programmes for large, medium or small screens. Our students are well-known for their skills in pre-production, production and post-production within television and screen production.

A Master of Laws will deepen your legal knowledge and legal research skills.

We offer a range of study options to suit your needs you can complete the Master of Laws entirely by thesis, entirely by coursework, or through a combination of coursework and research.
One area of focus for our taught program is advanced criminal law, enabling you to gain further expertise in that area. Other courses focus on human rights law, and indigenous rights and law.

Biomedical science and biotechnology have revolutionised research over the past decade, stimulating growth in industries like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, veterinary science and medical research. Biomedical science is the most rapidly developing area in biological sciences, and demand for biomedical graduates is expected to grow.

You gain an understanding of fundamental physiology and biomedical research, working with the latest laboratory techniques and equipment. AUT has specialist biomedical labs with analytical equipment not available at any other New Zealand university.

Study communication design and apply graphic design and digital skills to create typographic and visual meaning in graphic and interaction design, branding, illustration, photography, advertising, motion graphics and art direction. Communication design focuses on generating content and visually communicating ideas, messages and meaning to respond to societal, environmental and commercially relevant themes and issues. Because it's such a diverse subject, it can lead to a wide range of design careers.

The International Studies major helps you develop the skills to contribute effectively in this changing global environment, and interact with people with different backgrounds and world views.

To contribute to the increasing globalisation of the world, countries need people who understand the impact of global trends and issues, and can interact effectively in a multicultural environment. Intercultural competence is a skill highly valued by employers around the world.

In this major you can include courses from social sciences, business, culture, education, applied linguistics or languages. It’s a great addition to another major, especially in science, technology, engineering and maths.
