It’s designed for people with an unrelated degree who want to work towards registration with leading professional accounting bodies – including the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). It's a good choice if you want to gain membership with professional accounting bodies or change careers to become an accountant.

The MPA will advance your understanding of accounting from a strategic business perspective and provide the financial expertise needed for senior management roles. Roles may include chartered accountant, management accountant, chief financial officer, finance manager, forensic accountant, business consultant, tax specialist or a role in senior management.

Architecture focuses on the relationship between people and their environments.Study architecture at AUT and gain an understanding of the critical, ethical, aesthetic, social cultural and technological components of architecture and the design of sustainable future environments.

Advertising is about thinking laterally and developing effective brand and product campaigns. You start with a blank piece of course, do the hard work to get to a great idea and then choose various media to create a campaign. AUT is the only New Zealand university that teaches advertising creativity specifically and at degree level.

We work closely with the advertising industry, and you learn from guest speakers from leading advertising agencies and client companies like Google, TVNZ, Spark, MediaWorks, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, Colenso BBDO, FCB New Zealand and Film Construction.

Clients and agencies brief our students directly, and your completed ads may even be published in the media. Many students are also offered workplace experience at major advertising agencies. By the end of your degree you’ll have a professional portfolio to apply for work as a copywriter, art director and other roles in an ad agency.

A Master of Laws will deepen your legal knowledge and legal research skills.

We offer a range of study options to suit your needs you can complete the Master of Laws entirely by thesis, entirely by coursework, or through a combination of coursework and research.
One area of focus for our taught program is advanced criminal law, enabling you to gain further expertise in that area. Other courses focus on human rights law, and indigenous rights and law.

In the Interpreting major you learn to recognise cross-cultural implications for interpreting, and the ethical and professional responsibilities of an interpreter.

Interpreting is so much more than just repeating someone’s words in a different language. A good interpreter can understand nuances and cultural appropriateness, and convey levels of formality across a range of professions and industries. The challenge is to do justice to every situation.

You practise interpreting consecutively and simultaneously between English and another language. You explore the effects of intonation and the use of idioms in spoken English. Throughout your studies you also become familiar with interpreting for legal, healthcare or business settings. These skills will serve you well in our increasingly multicultural local and global communities.

AUT's digital communication courses offer a mix of media communication, production workflows, strategic thinking, and technological competencies that prepare you for a wide range of careers. You’ll work on various projects to create websites, app proposals, videos, motion graphics and print media that can serve as portfolio pieces.

Majoring in digital communications can lead you to an exciting and fast-paced career as a digital strategist or producer. You could also pair digital communications with another major or minor to build a breadth of desirable media production skills for any media or communications role.

In the Marine Science major in the Bachelor of Science you explore marine sciences, including the biology of fish and aquatic plants and marine invertebrates.

With 71 percent of the earth’s surface covered by water, marine life is critical to our existence. It’s one of the most valuable sources of food, medicine and raw materials. New discoveries are made daily in marine biology and ecology, making this an exciting and dynamic career choice with endless potential.

This major covers Marine Science (the scientific study of organisms in the ocean) and marine ecology (how marine organisms interact with each other and the environment). Field trips are a key part of this major you frequently go out on boats to investigate marine life or learn about aquaculture techniques, coastal processes,oceanography, management and conservation theories and practices.
