The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is for students with an undergraduate degree in applied mathematics, computer science or science.

At the heart of the programme is the honours dissertation; an independent small-scale research project on a scientific topic. We have strong links with key industry organisations, and many students complete their research project in collaboration with an industry partner. courses in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) focus on the latest developments in applied mathematics, computer science and science.

You can choose to study the generic Master of Science focusing on either science or computer and mathematical sciences, or one of: Applied Conservation, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Food Science, Geospatial Science, Marine Science, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Through the Software Engineering major in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) you develop cutting-edge skills for your future engineering career.

Professional software engineers are responsible for constructing, deploying and maintaining high-quality software in a systematic, timely and disciplined manner. Software engineers must be technically proficient and work effectively in teams and with multiple stakeholders.

You learn to design, develop, test and maintain software. To prepare you for a career as a professional engineer you also develop your communication and teamwork skills.

Developing new products and processes, and experimenting with the make-up and behaviour of different chemicals are some of the challenges chemistry graduates get to take on. A degree in chemistry opens the door to a wide range of career options, both in and out of the laboratory.

You gain essential practical laboratory skills needed to be successful in scientific employment here and overseas. AUT chemistry graduates have careers in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, petrochemicals, toiletries, plastics and polymers. There are also opportunities in the food and drink industry, health and medical organisations and scientific research organisations.

Advertising is about thinking laterally and developing effective brand and product campaigns. You start with a blank piece of course, do the hard work to get to a great idea and then choose various media to create a campaign. AUT is the only New Zealand university that teaches advertising creativity specifically and at degree level.

We work closely with the advertising industry, and you learn from guest speakers from leading advertising agencies and client companies like Google, TVNZ, Spark, MediaWorks, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, Colenso BBDO, FCB New Zealand and Film Construction.

Clients and agencies brief our students directly, and your completed ads may even be published in the media. Many students are also offered workplace experience at major advertising agencies. By the end of your degree you’ll have a professional portfolio to apply for work as a copywriter, art director and other roles in an ad agency.

The Master of Construction Management has been developed in partnership with construction industry leaders to meet the demand for professional managers who are technically competent in construction and able to manage the complexity of modern construction projects.

The programme is aimed at construction professionals including engineers, quantity surveyors and architects.
