Advertising is about thinking laterally and developing effective brand and product campaigns. You start with a blank piece of course, do the hard work to get to a great idea and then choose various media to create a campaign. AUT is the only New Zealand university that teaches advertising creativity specifically and at degree level.

We work closely with the advertising industry, and you learn from guest speakers from leading advertising agencies and client companies like Google, TVNZ, Spark, MediaWorks, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, Colenso BBDO, FCB New Zealand and Film Construction.

Clients and agencies brief our students directly, and your completed ads may even be published in the media. Many students are also offered workplace experience at major advertising agencies. By the end of your degree you’ll have a professional portfolio to apply for work as a copywriter, art director and other roles in an ad agency.

The Master of Applied Finance provides you with the skills for a wide range of financial fields. It’s designed for professionals with an unrelated degree who want to gain the specialised skills for a career in the finance industry.

These skills include concepts and techniques related to corporate finance, investment and financial risk analysis, restructuring and governance, an understanding of current issues in international investment, and the development of portfolio management strategies.

The AUT Business School is part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program. The Master of Applied Finance curriculum is based on the Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) from the CFA Program and this degree will position you well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst designation – a globally respected and recognised investment credential.

The Food Science major in the Bachelor of Science introduces you to the science behind the food we eat. It can open the door to a wide range of careers in food science.

Food innovation is driven by trends like reducing sugar, sodium and fat; using more natural flavourings and colourings, and improving the shelf-life of foods. Food scientists are critical in the production of food. They develop new food products, improve sensory attributes and nutritional content of foods, and find new ways to preserve, process, package and distribute food.

Study food science and become familiar with food chemistry, food microbiology, sensory science, food product development and food processing and technology. You learn to analyse the characteristics of food, discover new food sources, and research how to make processed foods safe and healthy.
