With a Massey Diploma in Arts, you can study what you enjoy and explore subject areas that spark your interest.

You can complete the Diploma in Arts with or without an endorsement in a subject area. Completing the diploma without endorsement lets you sample different subjects and build a qualification that reflects your own particular interests.

If you want to take an endorsement, you can choose from 25 subjects from the Bachelor of Arts degree and specialise in the one that sparks your passion.

Massey’s Diploma in Arts is extremely flexible and you can include courses from many disciplines, including some from outside the humanities and social sciences.

The Massey MA (Social Anthropology) gives you a different perspective on world affairs. Studying social anthropology develops your understanding of other cultures and ethnic groups. It shows you how your way of life is just one of many possible ways of being human. You’ll learn to challenge your existing beliefs and put yourself in others’ shoes.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Computer Engineering) will help you become an excellent electronic and computer engineer. You will be multi-disciplinary, have excellent practical skills and be able to design, develop and manage both software and hardware projects. You will be capable of working in a team environment and solving problems from the device level to networks, communication systems and embedded systems.

Electronic systems sense what is happening in the world around us. Computer systems process this data to extract information, or to control some activity. Virtually every aspect of our lives involves electronic and computer technology.

Tablet computers, smart phones and internet banking are commonplace today. These are the obvious examples of electronics and computers in modern day life. However, most electronics and computer systems are hidden:

• In appliances (from toasters to washing machines to refrigerators)
• In cars
• In traffic systems
• In heating systems.

Electronics and computers have integrated and become all-pervasive in modern-day life, which ensures the continued relevance of this area of engineering.

The Massey BA (Social Anthropology) will give you a different perspective on the world, global culture and society.

Studying social anthropology will develop your understanding of other cultures and contexts and show you how your way of life is just one of many possible ways of being human. Social Anthropology invites us to ask questions about the cultural implications of migration, human trafficking, religion, gender fluidity, cyberspace, fracking, hyper-consumption, food security, scientific enquiry, city living to challenge your existing beliefs and put yourself in others’ shoes.

Finance and financial decision-making include determining what to invest in, how to pay or finance the investments and what to do with the money earned on those investments.

With Massey’s Master of Science (Conservation Biology), you will learn to address real conservation management problems. You will work in a small group setting and engage with staff of conservation agencies who are working on the ground to save our endangered native species.

The conservation biology qualification has a strong emphasis on integrating theory with practice and teaching state-of-the-art analytical techniques, providing a good stepping-stone to PhD research as well as employment opportunities.

Statistics provides tools vital for the collecting, analysing and presenting of data. Statistics is much more than the organisation and display of data. Careful analysis of underlying questions and critical examination of the sources of data are part of the art of statistics. Modelling the variability in data to calculate the reliability of answers is part of its science.

Statisticians use computers extensively to do calculations, draw graphics and bring new insights. With increasing use of technology, people with data handling skills have become highly sought after in the workplace. More and more professions, from the every day to the exotic, depend on data and numerical reasoning.
