The Massey BA (Social Anthropology) will give you a different perspective on the world, global culture and society. Studying social anthropology will develop your understanding of other cultures and contexts and show you how your way of life is just one of many possible ways of being human. Social Anthropology invites us to ask questions about the cultural implications of migration, human trafficking, religion, gender fluidity, cyberspace, fracking, hyper-consumption, food security, scientific enquiry, city living to challenge your existing beliefs and put yourself in others’ shoes.

The Graduate Diploma in Arts (Educational Psychology) is a bridging tool for graduates in other subjects to get the equivalent of a major in educational psychology. You can then go on to a postgraduate qualification in educational psychology if you wish. A graduate diploma in psychology will equip you with valuable transferable skills. This includes research, analysis, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Politics is life, and like life, politics is a struggle. The study of politics equips you with the concepts, theories and facts necessary to make sense of that struggle. Politics is about us: how we make decisions in society and who gets what, when and how. Politics is also concerned with the conflict of ideas and values, not only at the level of the local community or the nation but also internationally. More specifically, it has to do with who governs and how and why decisions that affect all of us (such as how much students pay to study at a university) are made.

The Graduate Diploma in Information Sciences (GradDipInfSc) is intended mainly for graduates in an unrelated area who are seeking to retrain or upskill in the information sciences.  Many of the students are studying via distance (online study) because they are working full time.

Massey is one of the few universities in New Zealand where your information sciences qualification covers all five disciplines of computer science, data science, information technology, information systems and software engineering.  Many graduates have found it really useful to complete the Graduate Diploma “with no endorsement”.  This means that you can select the courses you are most interested in from across the range of subjects.  You are strongly encouraged to select “no endorsement”.

You’ll learn a broad spectrum of skills from business management through to software development.  So you’ll emerge from your studies at Massey with a well-rounded understanding of the whole industry. You’ll gain the applied skills that you’ll need to become an excellent ICT professional.

What will I learn?

Sport Development is multi-disciplinary. It can relate to the ‘development of sport’ and the wider society-based ‘sport for development’. The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Sport Development) will prepare you for work in this varied and fast growing area of the sport industry, whether you are looking at sport from the perspective of:

• Enhancing the function of sport organisations.

The Bachelor of Business (Management) will give you a grounding in the latest management principles, and the skills to think analytically. You’ll learn how to evaluate and use the information you have at hand to assess complex situations and problem-solve. Areas of study:

• Business strategy and governance
• Culture and politics in organisations

Software engineering brings together the disciplines of computer science and information technology. This degree is a highly-practical and sought-after qualification that is practice-focused and industry-relevant.
Studying software engineering will see you gain the knowledge, tools and practical skills to be able to design, construct, test and maintain large software applications.

The Bachelor of Information Sciences (Software Engineering) is a joint major which means that you will study aspects of both computer science and information technology.

Your learning will focus on:

• The design and construction of large software applications
• Both soft and hard software development skills
