If you already hold a degree but would like to develop your fine art skills, this program offers the opportunity to carry out an intensive personalised course of study. The skills gained through an art qualification are highly valued in a huge variety of industries including education, design, management and marketing. You may become practising artists in various disciplines and media, or consider a diverse and exciting range of careers including an Illustrator, Art Therapist, Researcher, Artists' Agent, Photojournalist or Colour Consultant.

This degree will teach you how to become a creative maker, thinker and active agent in a local, national and global context. A qualification in the Visual Arts will allow you to find employment in a diverse range of professions such as practising artist, curator, art educator or researcher. A variety of roles within the digital and film industries would also be possible.

All business organisations need highly capable and competent members of a team who demonstrate the potential to lead staff, ensure targets align with strategic objectives, manage projects, and contribute to business planning to achieve high performance and productivity. Amongst other things, you will learn how to lead others to implement activities that lead to high productivity, manage projects within scope, resources and time, and develop a positive workplace culture and team engagement.

Graduates of the Leadership and Management strand will have the skills and knowledge to work.

The Master of Fine Arts is an applied research degree benchmarked against national and international standards with a distinct emphasis on art-making and writing.The program is shaped by your proposal and can be completed in one discipline, or across several, and provides a qualification necessary for careers such as tertiary teaching, writing or critiquing, museum or gallery curatorship.

Practising artists will especially benefit from a focused, in-depth research project, culminating in a public exhibition and dissertation, reflecting your knowledge and competence in art practices and theories, and contemporary society and culture.

This program is taught in a multi-disciplinary environment which means that your design projects may be more discipline focused e.g. fashion, communication, visual arts, product, spatial design, or explore projects than span and connect disciplines such as interaction design, fashion communication, accessories, food design, multimedia projects, event and experience design to name a few.

This Master of Visual Arts qualification may lead to higher level employment opportunities in the arts sector. Gain transferable skills that are highly valued in a huge variety of industries including education, art and design, arts management, editorial and curatorial practices.

It is based around practical experiences and problem-based learning, where you are the centre of the puzzle and the context determines the learning and outcomes.You will learn to reflect and critique your own and others practice in relation to the underpinning theory.

Graduates of this program can expect to gain employment as competent practitioners within professional organisations.This may include government and non-government sport, exercise and health settings. For example, working in or with regional sports trusts, commercial gyms, teaching, health promotion organisations and sporting organisations. 

Then this is the qualification for you! You will learn how to effectively implement processes that actively support and enhance the visitor experience and will evaluate local, national and international tourism operating environments.
An educational field trip to an iconic New Zealand tourism destination is included. You will have the chance to engage in tourism activities first hand to build your experience of the industry. This will help to build your knowledge and connect the theory you have learned with practice.
