Bachelor of Contemporary Art

at Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) - Hamilton City Campus New Zealand

Students in the Bachelor of Design programme will develop their creativity, innovation, and design capabilities to find new ways to visually and strategically solve challenges for brands and organisations.

Visual communication
Students will add value to brands or organisations by creating artwork and graphic designs for digital media, magazines, brochures, advertising, packaging and products. They will learn:

• Graphic design for print, package, and publication
• Logo design and brand identity development
• Illustration
• Web and interactive design and motion graphics

Studying this program, students will be equipped with the skills for a multi-media career in journalism or communications.

Students in this program will develop news sourcing, writing and publishing skills; as well as technical skills in photography and videography. Students will put these skills into practice publishing regularly in the Wintec online newspaper, The Waikato Independent, and through projects with industry.

In this program, students will gain a strong foundation of knowledge across a broad range of different information technology skills, as well as an advanced level of expertise in a selected specialisation.

Students will undertake core modules that cover the fundamental skills required for a career in IT, for example, software engineering, database architecture, web development, business analysis, communications technology, operating systems, systems administration, and network engineering. Students will also gain practical, industry-aligned skills that employers demand from our graduates as well as new and emerging fields including cloud computing, big data and analytics, DevOps, business intelligence, agile development, web and mobile app development, games development, AR/VR, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, and security.

Our degree is also designed to provide students with a broad skill-set and holistic understanding of the wider context of the IT business domain and the global IT industry, as well as specialist knowledge in a specific area. Technologies and tools used within the degree are ever updating but currently include python, C#.net, Visual Studio, Java, Android development, MS Server, Active Directory, Unity3D, Unreal, Cisco, Fortinet, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Laravel, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Power BI, AWS, Azure, Hadoop, and much more.

This degree is designed for those with a drive to succeed in business, with a practical focus, and a flexible structure. Students can choose from a range of majors and elective modules, and will gain a broad range of business skills, as well as specialist skills and work experience in their chosen major. Students will have the opportunity to undertake collaborative real-world projects with students from other disciplines, and with industry.

Sales and Marketing
Putting consumer theory into practice, students will graduate with skills in consumer behavioural analysis, domestic and international market theory, and applied marketing campaigns.

This degree is for those who want to engage in fields of art including painting, photography, screen-based media, installation, street art, sculpture, curation or illustration. Students will study in a community where individual vision and personality are valued as a relevant contribution to our society.

Students will develop and gain a deep understanding of creativity in art and use this to respond to situations that demand combinations of ideas, technologies and techniques that result in new forms of knowledge and making. Such knowledge is powerful in the careers that will sustain and transform our world.

This program is for those with a degree in another subject who want to progress their career into human resource management. Students will develop specialist skills in staff management, recruitment, employee performance, employee up-skilling and development, and conflict resolution. This program includes a work placement and research project.

All modules in the Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management are compulsory.

Supply Chain Logistics explores how to recognise, analyse and solve global logistics and supply chain issues. This moves beyond the logistics of production & engineering into the broader range of activities that effectively links suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers to end-users.

This program is for those with a degree in another subject who want to progress into supply chain and logistical management positions. This program includes a work placement and research project.

Core studies include learning how to identify important phases of supply chain and logistical management from internal and external perspectives; evaluating and critiquing existing operations; identifying supply chain and logistical issues, and creating effective and sustainable management solutions.

Other relevant topics include project management, operations management and e-commerce in relation to supply chain logistics. The final module – BIBM788 Professional Project – includes a work placement and research project, bringing together all that has been learnt in the classroom.??? This is a great experience, where students get the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents and build networks and business relationships that can lead to job opportunities.

Strategic Management

In their first year, students will complete the eight core modules required for the applied management degree. These modules will give students the important broad skills they will need to excel in any business area. During their second year, students will take three modules for the strategic management major, choose three other modules toward a second major, and study two core modules – Applied Management and Research Methodology. In the third year, students will study two more strategic management modules and two other modules towards a second major. Students will also apply their skill on work placement with a local business.

Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) is an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) degree. An ITE qualification is the requirement to become a beginning teacher in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Approved and monitored by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, this degree is designed for those who would like to pursue a career as a qualified early childhood education teacher.
