New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing

This program is for those who want to work in clinical settings as an enrolled nurse and a valued member of the health team.

Students will gain knowledge in nursing, social science, and the structure and function of the human body. They will learn skills in simulated learning environments which can then be applied on placements in clinical practice. A range of clinical courses in different health care settings will prepare students to practice in areas including rehabilitation, acute care and mental health.

After completing this program students will be able to apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand to sit an exam to be registered as an Enrolled Nurse; this means they will be able to practise under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

They will help their communities realise their full potential to function independently and positively in society.

This four-year programme combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning. You will gain the knowledge base, skills, and attributes required to practice in a variety of social work fields and environments such as schools, hospitals, community groups, or government organisations.

Students will develop the skills to:

  • Promote the principles of human rights and social justice and promote social change.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals in multi-disciplinary teams, organisations, and communities.
  • Critically reflect on their own social work practice through supervision, peer review, and self-evaluation.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with different user groups.
  • Provide or facilitate social services in fields such as healthcare, schools, government, and non-government agencies.

Supply Chain Logistics explores how to recognise, analyse and solve global logistics and supply chain issues. This moves beyond the logistics of production & engineering into the broader range of activities that effectively links suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers to end-users.

This program is for those with a degree in another subject who want to progress into supply chain and logistical management positions. This program includes a work placement and research project.

Core studies include learning how to identify important phases of supply chain and logistical management from internal and external perspectives; evaluating and critiquing existing operations; identifying supply chain and logistical issues, and creating effective and sustainable management solutions.

Other relevant topics include project management, operations management and e-commerce in relation to supply chain logistics. The final module – BIBM788 Professional Project – includes a work placement and research project, bringing together all that has been learnt in the classroom.??? Bachelor of Midwifery

This program is for those who want to learn to confidently nurture and care for women through pregnancy, childbirth, and up to the first six weeks following birth. Students will gain a wide range of knowledge and skills to work autonomously, be fully responsible for the wellbeing of women and babies, and support families safely and appropriately.

Students study full-time and are required to complete the program within five years, as prescribed by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). On application to MCNZ, a sixth study year may be approved. The first year is mainly theory-based, with the second- and third-year split between practical and theory, and the fourth year is predominantly practical.

This program is designed to provide students with a broad base of business knowledge, and gain role-specific skills in either accounting or leadership and management.

All strands will learn about business operational functions, business communication, the New Zealand business context and interpersonal relationships.

Bachelor of Media Arts (Honours)

The Bachelor of Media Arts (Honours) offers a contemporary, open and rigorous learning environment tailored to students' needs.

This is a postgraduate program for students who wish to undertake an in-depth investigation into their chosen field, within a research-focused learning environment. Students will have the opportunity to respond to new developments in the communication, design, music, and visual arts fields.

As an Honours student supervision is provided for both the practical and the theoretical components of study. Additional supervision from external representatives of a student's professional field can also be established. Students will have frequent formal and informal meetings and critiques with other staff and students to discuss their work, helping to frame and respond critically to issues surrounding their practice at the level required by the professional world. The learning environment is good-humoured, varied and active, encouraging input from staff and students equally.

Students will develop their own musical voice and learn skills for a career on stage, behind the curtain, or in the production suite. 

Music and performing arts students work alongside each other to learn technical, theoretical and professional skills while developing their expertise in their chosen endorsements. Through additional elective modules and large-scale projects, students have the opportunity to specialise in their chosen field as they move through the degree.

This degree has two pathways:

  • Music (audio production, composition/songwriting, performance)
  • Performing Arts (theatre)

Music
Along with technical, theoretical, and professional skills, students will explore audio production, composition/songwriting and performance, and develop expertise in one or more of these areas through elective choices and specialisation within the core modules.

Audio Production 
Capture and shape sound in innovative ways. Audio production students will learn:

  • Audio engineering
  • Mixing and producing
  • Sound design

Technically engage with a wide range of music and multimedia contexts and develop a heightened sense of listening. Students will develop an understanding of the technologies and innovations of how sound is captured, manipulated, and reproduced. 

Performance
Perform music in live and studio environments. Performance students will learn:

  • Vocal and instrumental technique
  • Performance stagecraft
  • Vocal, instrumental, and ensemble performance
  • Studio recording

Students will develop a rich understanding of musical interpretation and enhance their practical, creative, and critical skills to become a professional musician in a variety of performance settings. Students will have opportunities to learn from professional teachers to develop technical and artistic skills on their chosen instrument/voice.

Composition/songwriting
Expertly craft the elements of music. Composition and songwriting students will learn:

  • Songwriting
  • Music and multimedia
  • Notation and recording technology
  • Instrumental genres and styles including film/game music, classical music, and sound art

Gaining the expertise to create music as a standalone art form alongside video/film, theatre, games, and other emergent technologies, students will develop control of the technology needed to craft the elements of music for a range of musical genres. 

Performing arts 
Along with technical, theoretical, and professional competencies, students will develop further skills to be creative theatre practitioners. 

Performing arts students will work on arena musicals to intimate plays, dance shows to cabaret, and explore:

  • Acting techniques
  • Voice and singing 
  • Directing and producing
  • Movement and dance
  • Stage management, set design, lighting, and sound 

Students learn in real theatre environments from some of New Zealand’s leading directors, choreographers, actors, musical directors, and writers. Additionally, students will perform regularly within the Wintec music and performing arts scene and are encouraged to audition for and participate in community, regional, and national productions while studying.

What you will learn
In the first year of the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts, students will take three core modules:

  • Music and Performing Arts Craft: Develop specialised skills
  • Critical Methods: Understand the arts and the cultural world
  • Professional Practice: Learn the ways of industry

To complement these modules, students will add two electives of their choice so they can broaden their creative toolkit—these electives include introductory papers on songwriting, performance, sound fundamentals, storytelling, moving image, design, photography, and more. 

These courses will give students a secure grounding in their discipline's technical, theoretical, and professional skills while also exposing them to broader ideas about the arts and the cultural world around them.
