Studying this program, students will be equipped with the skills for a multi-media career in journalism or communications.

Students in this program will develop news sourcing, writing and publishing skills; as well as technical skills in photography and videography. Students will put these skills into practice publishing regularly in the Wintec online newspaper, The Waikato Independent, and through projects with industry.

The Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) (MNSc (Pre-reg)) programme is a 4-semester two-year programme. The MNSc (Pre-reg) allows degree qualified students a direct and faster route to a nursing career. On successful completion, graduates will be awarded a Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) and be eligible to apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) to sit the State Final Examination to become a registered nurse.

This programme will assist practitioners in gaining advanced knowledge and skills to effectively manage the demands of rapidly changing, and increasingly complex health and social care practice environments.

The focus of learning in the programme will include working reflexively with clients and communities within differing interprofessional collaborations and relationships. It will enable students to engage in transformative learning strategies that build on the strengths, knowledge, skills and relationships acquired as experienced practitioners. This practice-based learning approach will enhance students' ability to engage in future professional and work-related challenges.

Students in this program will advance their ability to innovate in the workplace allowing them to immerse themselves into the enterprise environment and gain a postgraduate qualification whilst in employment. This program offers an accessible academic and professional career development opportunity in research and innovation at postgraduate level, relevant to all disciplines.

This programme is for those passionate about social justice who want to support and empower individuals, families, wh?nau, and communities. Students will gain the skills to provide advice and support and learn how to advocate for individuals and groups. They will help their communities realise their full potential to function independently and positively in society.

This four-year programme combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning. You will gain the knowledge base, skills, and attributes required to practice in a variety of social work fields and environments such as schools, hospitals, community groups, or government organisations.

Students will develop the skills to:

• Promote the principles of human rights and social justice and promote social change.
• Work collaboratively with other professionals in multi-disciplinary teams, organisations, and communities.
• Critically reflect on their own social work practice through supervision, peer review, and self-evaluation.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with different user groups.
• Provide or facilitate social services in fields such as healthcare, schools, government, and non-government agencies.
• Undertake their practice according to the ethical and legislative boundaries.
• Increase their social and political awareness, and think critically about the structures, behaviours, and processes that disadvantage and oppress people.

The Bachelor of Social Work programme will prepare graduates to enter the social work workforce at a beginning practitioner level with provisional registration with the Social Workers Registration Board.

Students studying the Bachelor of Communication at Wintec will learn to communicate effectively with flair. Working individually and in teams, they will hone their storytelling and analytical skills gaining industry-relevant skills and knowledge through hands-on, client-focused projects.

Introduced to both creative media and digital marketing, students develop their expertise in their chosen endorsement through project roles and elective choices, with the opportunity to further specialise in their third year.

Creative media 
Along with core communication skills, writing, multimedia storytelling, and basic digital marketing, students will develop further skills to be creative content producers. Students will learn:

• Media production and delivery
• Creative research and development
• Photography
• Video production

Students will generate dynamic, creative media solutions. They will produce a range of engaging content for delivery across a variety of platforms, that respond to a brief, and appeal to their intended audiences.

This program provides students with postgraduate study leading towards professional and higher academic practice. Students will learn within a research-focused learning environment, and will extend their domain of practice through research in their chosen area.

Students will extend their domain of practice through undertaking a body of sustained, independent research. This in-depth investigation is in the student's chosen area of communication, design, music or visual arts practice within a research-focused learning environment. The program will prepare students for high level investigation of, and intervention within their chosen academic or professional field.

This programme is for those who want to enhance their degree or work experience with knowledge and skills in public relations, advertising, and media practices. Students will work on live projects with real clients, with support from tutors with industry experience.

To be successful in public relations or advertising, students must be an excellent communicator, a problem solver, a lateral thinker, interested in contemporary issues, creative and able to work under pressure. The Graduate Diploma in Communication (Level 7) can help develop students' abilities in these areas and prepare them for a career in these exciting industries.

This program is for those who want to learn to confidently nurture and care for women through pregnancy, childbirth, and up to the first six weeks following birth. Students will gain a wide range of knowledge and skills to work autonomously, be fully responsible for the wellbeing of women and babies, and support families safely and appropriately.

Students study full-time and are required to complete the program within five years, as prescribed by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). On application to MCNZ, a sixth study year may be approved. The first year is mainly theory-based, with the second- and third-year split between practical and theory, and the fourth year is predominantly practical.

This degree is designed for those with a drive to succeed in business, with a practical focus, and a flexible structure. Students can choose from a range of majors and elective modules, and will gain a broad range of business skills, as well as specialist skills and work experience in their chosen major. Students will have the opportunity to undertake collaborative real-world projects with students from other disciplines, and with industry.

Sales and Marketing
Putting consumer theory into practice, students will graduate with skills in consumer behavioural analysis, domestic and international market theory, and applied marketing campaigns.
