The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Information Technology enables students to undertake an advanced program of study, covering a wide range of areas to further their academic subject area knowledge of information technology and research skills to obtain employment or advance their careers.

In this program, students will gain a strong foundation of knowledge across a broad range of different information technology skills, as well as an advanced level of expertise in a selected specialisation.

Students will undertake core modules that cover the fundamental skills required for a career in IT, for example, software engineering, database architecture, web development, business analysis, communications technology, operating systems, systems administration, and network engineering. Students will also gain practical, industry-aligned skills that employers demand from our graduates as well as new and emerging fields including cloud computing, big data and analytics, DevOps, business intelligence, agile development, web and mobile app development, games development, AR/VR, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, and security.

Our degree is also designed to provide students with a broad skill-set and holistic understanding of the wider context of the IT business domain and the global IT industry, as well as specialist knowledge in a specific area. Technologies and tools used within the degree are ever updating but currently include python, C#.net, Visual Studio, Java, Android development, MS Server, Active Directory, Unity3D, Unreal, Cisco, Fortinet, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Laravel, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Power BI, AWS, Azure, Hadoop, and much more.

Students in this program will learn the knowledge and skills to deliver quality information technology services and develop effective communication skills to support and enhance various organisations and industries.

Students can choose to specialise in one of the following five specialisations:

Network engineering
For those seeking a career in the field of network engineering, network administration, cyber and network security.

Software engineering
For those seeking a career in software engineering, software development, big data and analytics, mobile applications development, and software testing.

Web development
For those seeking a career in web design/development, web applications development, and mobile applications development.

This program provides students with postgraduate study leading towards professional and higher academic practice. Students will learn within a research-focused learning environment, and will extend their domain of practice through research in their chosen area.

Students will extend their domain of practice through undertaking a body of sustained, independent research. This in-depth investigation is in the student's chosen area of communication, design, music or visual arts practice within a research-focused learning environment. The program will prepare students for high level investigation of, and intervention within their chosen academic or professional field.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Informatics program has been developed to meet increasing demand from industry and organisations for professionals with interdisciplinary knowledge and information management skills. This program provides a professional development pathway for graduates with a relevant degree. Students will learn about the social, cultural, and organisational settings in which information is used. Areas of specialisation could include e-commerce, strategic planning, organisational behaviour, and services management.

This programme is about the use of information systems as solutions in business environments. Students will learn how the analysis and implementation of information systems can deliver information to the right people in the most effective time and ways.

This programme is for those who want to enhance their degree or work experience with knowledge and skills in public relations, advertising, and media practices. Students will work on live projects with real clients, with support from tutors with industry experience.

To be successful in public relations or advertising, students must be an excellent communicator, a problem solver, a lateral thinker, interested in contemporary issues, creative and able to work under pressure. The Graduate Diploma in Communication (Level 7) can help develop students' abilities in these areas and prepare them for a career in these exciting industries.

Students in this program will learn theory and technical knowledge in a range of natural and physical sciences. Students will also learn a range of practical skills, laboratory methods, and the soft skills necessary for further studies in the field of science. Areas of study include chemistry, biology, microbiology, food nutrition, and environmental sciences.

This program is highly practical. Alongside learning theory, students will spend time in the laboratory developing the practical skills that are useful in the workplace.

The Master of Applied Information Technology enables students to undertake an extended study program in their specialised information technology field. It requires 180 credits and has two pathways:

• The thesis pathway
• The research project pathway

This program is for those with a degree in another subject who want to progress into management and business strategy positions. Students will develop specialist skills in business strategy, analytics, and strategic thinking.

All modules in this program are compulsory. Students will study eight modules in total – five focused on strategic management subjects such as marketing management, leadership, strategic planning and business and society, and one focused on business in the New Zealand context.
