Our BA (Hons) Illustration and Animation course explores the connections between animation and illustration, helping you to create sequential narratives using a variety of methods – from traditional handmade image-making, to the latest specialist 2D digital animation, 3D CGI used in industry and cutting-edge interactive techniques.

As well as gaining strong software skills and a good understanding of animation, timings and motion, you will become an innovative and creative thinker. You will develop creative abilities, technical skills and a personal language within animation, with the focus being on illustration and design.

Within our supportive and vibrant studio culture, you will work on a range of projects from narrative animation, animated idents, motion graphics, character design, storyboarding, CGI and concept art to develop a body of work for your professional portfolio and showreel, preparing you for industry.

Perhaps most importantly, you’ll get time, guidance and support from a team of industry professionals, animators and illustrators and visiting industry experts who are dedicated to your creative development. In your final year you will also receive guidance from an assigned industry advisor dedicated to the year.

While developing a unique visual style, you’ll also focus on the core foundations: studying the world around you, refining your drawing skills, learning the fundamentals of animation skills using industry standard 2D and 3D animation software, such as TV paint and Maya and learning to create engaging stories through moving images.

You’ll go on group reportage drawing trips, with opportunities to visit museums, galleries and animation festivals in the UK and overseas. You’ll find lots of visual inspiration in Cambridge – from the Botanic Gardens to the art collection in the Fitzwilliam Museum, to the city’s architectural beauty and vibrant cultural and student life.

You’re resilient and not afraid to make mistakes. You also know that as an entrepreneur, it’s important to experiment, accept failure and learn to try again.

Our BSc (Hons) Business with Entrepreneurship degree will equip you with tools that can help you develop, test and realise your ideas. You’ll also learn about applying for grants and reflect on what it really means to be an entrepreneur.

In a world with so many changes in so short a time, future design professionals have never played such a central role in responding to ethical, political, social, and ecological concerns - through systems-shifting design approaches to everyday physical and digital life that are agile, digital, context-specific, and connected, and also address the complex issues of security, safety, and trust.

Study MA Human-Centred Design at ARU, and develop the theoretical, practical, and leadership skills, understanding and knowledge that are critical to creating dynamic and connected modes of engagement with the everyday physical and digital life; the climate and nature; and business. You’ll gain a broad understanding of people, culture, and context from the perspective of design, and tackle human and planet-related issues in a global context by introducing new forms of process, tools, and methods.You’ll work closely with students from across the Cambridge School of Art, including postgraduate students from Interior Design Innovation and Art, Health, and Wellbeing on an industry-led collaborative project, and deliver public-facing events. As a Human-Centred Design student in Cambridge, you’ll be able to work in a start-up environment and a relaxed culture in which creativity and creative problem solving are valued, building strong relationships and freely exchanging thoughts and ideas. Most importantly, you’ll receive support and guidance from our experienced staff who, as well as running their own studio practice, have worked with companies such as Nokia, Hitachi, Ogilvy, Unilever, Ford, and Dyson. The creative freedom offered by the course results in a variety of degree outputs based on design futuring, ideas and methods for design as an expanded ethical and professional practice, from new product development to new experiences and services, systems, and models.

Examine real-life case studies to piece together the inner workings of serious crime, and the methods used to police it. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed for many careers in criminal justice, such as the Police, youth justice, the Home Office or border agencies

Focusing on serious crime, you’ll explore the practice and theory of criminal activities, including how crime is detected and policed, methods of social control, and sanctions.

By examining different theoretical standpoints, you’ll form an understanding of various Western legal and social traditions and how they compare to each other.

You’ll investigate issues such as organised illicit trade and criminal enterprise, using case studies of criminal activities including financial crime, human trafficking, and violence prevention.

Our modules will let you specialise in other areas of interest too, such as the nature of violence, terrorism, and policing transnational crime.

Most of your teaching will take place in research-seminar format to allow you to develop critical thinking, but your learning will also be supported by lectures, guest speakers and debates. You’ll have a chance to contribute to our research seminar series, and take part in our annual criminology study trips abroad.

Here at ARU, you won’t just learn in the classroom. There’s the chance to take economics out of the classroom, debating big ideas such as the minimum wage, capitalism and Brexit in our popular Economics in the Pub sessions.

With an eye on the future, you can also choose to take an optional placement year and add valuable work experience to your CV.

You know there’s more to economics than meets the eye. It’s not just about the numbers, but making sense of those numbers and understanding how society can make the most of its resources.

With economics, there’s never just one way of looking at things. It’s important to be alive to current debates and ways of thinking. You’ll get that as a student in Cambridge.

By studying Business with Economics at ARU, you’ll be looking at the ‘bigger picture’. Together, we’ll explore accounting and mathematics, statistics and econometrics, micro- and macroeconomics. But we’ll also study business more broadly, covering topics such as project management, sustainability, the EU economy and international trade.

As the course progresses, you’ll establish areas of interest that you can develop in your final project. You’ll understand how economics and business, put together, influence organisations’ behaviour and performance – and ultimately impact on all our lives.

Our Software Engineering degree has been designed with employers in mind, so you’ll be equipped with all the skills you need as a graduate.

You’ll get the chance to stay ahead of the game as you apply new models, techniques and tools for implementing custom designed systems while delivering high standard software products for various platforms.

As a student at ARU, you'll develop essential programming skills that are key to industry and learn to apply your new coding skills to a variety of programming languages. You'll also learn how to implement sophisticated, secure data systems and develop important skills in data handling techniques that are required by many employers.

There are plenty of opportunities for practical work as you carry out individual and team tasks in the software development lifecycle, from analysis and design to implementation, testing and maintenance of a software system.

Our BSc (Hons) Software Engineering degree offers an optional placement year, where you can build up experience working in the industry, and make contacts to benefit your studies and enhance your long-term career prospects.

District nurses care for people in their home and in the community.

Our one-year Top-up Degree combines university study with experience in practice with the support of Practice Assessors and Supervisors to enhance your knowledge of working and caring for people in the community.

In particular, you'll focus on population and caseload management; on supporting your patients to achieve and sustain independence; and on caring for those who are either unwell, recovering or at end of life.

As a district nursing student at ARU, you’ll explore how individuals and their families can care for themselves at home, enhancing people’s dignity and reducing hospital admissions. Our course will give you the skills you need to take on this rewarding role, with an understanding of legal and ethical issues.

Our BSc (Hons) Community Specialist Practitioner (District Nursing) degree course features a mix of classroom and online learning, with 120 days on placement. You’ll receive support from your tutors at all times and be assigned a Practice Supervisor who’ll help you to develop a personalised programme of learning.

By the end of the year, you’ll record your qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Community Specialist Practitioner (District Nursing) with a prescribing qualification.

As a BA (Hons) Philosophy student at ARU, you'll understand both the history of philosophy, as well as cutting edge debates in contemporary philosophy, within areas such as the Philosophy of AI, Ethics and the Philosophy of Art.

Your studies will be supported by our expert philosophy lecturers, who offer one-to-one tutoring and personalised feedback. You could also boost your employability by learning a language with our Anglia Language Programme, or studying abroad for a semester.

On this course you’ll study the practical and theoretical aspects of modern politics and international relations, and thereby gain insights into our past, present and future on both a local and global scale. You’ll examine relevant political debates from a historical, philosophical and sociological perspective. In doing so, we‘ll go beyond the ‘high politics’ of traditional theories and the workings of parliaments. Instead, you’ll be able to develop your own specialisms in areas such as global diplomacy, international relations, and international issues like climate change; protest movements like Black Lives Matter; the devolution of power away from central government; the politics of the new media; the politics of gender, and the place of race in modern society.

Our specialist modules such as Race, Racism and Cultural Identity, Wrestling with Trump: the WWE and Modern Political Culture, and Politics and Social Media will allow you to engage with contemporary issues, developing a deeper understanding of modern politics.

As a BA (Hons) Politics student at ARU, you’ll learn from expert tutors including historians, sociologists, criminologists and political scientists.

Together, we’ll explore the latest theories, debates and research; examine domestic, European and international themes in politics, and consider the practical implications of political decision-making and policies.

All our Politics students have the opportunity to study in the USA or Canada for a semester, and can apply for funding to help cover the cost. You could also take an optional placement year.

Once you’ve graduated, you might start a career in analysis, journalism or local or international politics, or you could continue to develop your skills with one of our full-time and part-time Masters degrees including our MA International Relations.
