Overview
At ARU, our Architectural Technology degree course focuses on the link between building design and production. It gives you the technical understanding to bridge the two – and take the lead on major built environment projects.
In our specialist model-making studios and out on site visits, we’ll explore the technology of architecture. You’ll become adept at fine-tuning the design of buildings so that they’re truly usable, liveable and sustainable.
Architectural Technology is the link between design and construction to achieve the optimisation of production and long-term performance, with the use of technology for managing, assessing and evaluating projects. It needs to keep pace with changing social, economic, legal, cultural, environmental, technological, business and political frameworks on the built and natural environment relating to design, within a national and international context. This course focuses on employability and skills development to enable you to contribute significantly to industry challenges. It provides integration between construction technology and low environmental impact design that addresses the urgent need to decarbonise, with equal attention to new and existing buildings.

Our facilities are the perfect places to test and research different materials and designs throughout your Civil Engineering course. This course includes, at a subsidised cost, a week-long residential field trip to Constructionarium in the first year. Constructionarium is a hands-on construction experience for students; participants construct scaled down versions of bridges, buildings, dams and civil engineering projects from all around the world. Engineering is in everything and an engineer is continually looking at how to improve products and the world. It’s about taking a product or system seeing whether it can change to meet demand – whether that is in development, processing, design, or even the materials used.
Our new four-year MEng Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree course is about combining the mechanical with the electrical. It's been created with a focus on project-based learning, allowing you to take the theory you've learned in class and apply it in a hands-on project module that runs throughout Year 1.
You will study alongside other mechanical engineering students, specialising in mechatronics and robotics manufacturing in your final year and in certain modules throughout your course. You will focus on the electronic application of engineering – how this can blend with mechanical engineering to move technology forwards.
