Our new four-year MEng Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree course is about combining the mechanical with the electrical. It's been created with a focus on project-based learning, allowing you to take the theory you've learned in class and apply it in a hands-on project module that runs throughout Year 1.

You will study alongside other mechanical engineering students, specialising in mechatronics and robotics manufacturing in your final year and in certain modules throughout your course. You will focus on the electronic application of engineering – how this can blend with mechanical engineering to move technology forwards.

While studying our Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree course, you will learn through a wide range of lab sessions. We explore manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics, and structural analysis so you can analyse, calculate, model, and experience your proposed concepts. Civil engineering changes our world – from buildings and transport to the environment and civil protection. It covers everything from creative concepts to physical construction and maintenance. On our newly designed course your learning will be based around the civil engineering project and hands-on learning, giving you the chance to immediately apply the theory you learn in class to address the challenges of the project. You will learn how to carry out site investigations, select the best materials for the job, analyse and design structures and engineering systems, plan the construction process and assess and mitigate the environmental impact of the project using our specialist workshops and labs. You will learn how to carry out land surveys and use state of the art CAD systems and specialist software to design and analyse complex systems.

When studying our Civil Engineering course, you’ll learn a range of transferable skills, including how to manage projects and contracts; statistics; management techniques; and principles of IT, preparing you for industry work, advising clients, working closely with other engineers and stake holders. You’ll become a creative problem solver and a confident communicator, able to work well independently and in a team.

Our architecture studios are exciting, creative places with industry-standard equipment. Here, our experts will deliver a learner-centred and research-led approach to architecture.

You’ll become skilled in developing design concepts, experimenting with different media, and representing your ideas through drawings, physical and digital models.

But you won’t be restricted to the studio. You’ll go on site visits so you can analyse the language and style of buildings, their construction, and see projects taking shape in real life. Together, we’ll explore building design, ‘buildability’ and sustainability.

There’s also an optional European field trip each year, to cities such as Lisbon, Venice, Rome and Vienna. It’s a great chance to explore how architecture contributes to shaping our urban life.

Your future career is important so you’ll learn about the construction business and project management. We have a network of visiting designers, artists, historians and theorists who deliver workshops, lectures and tutorials. You can also choose to take a placement as part of your BA (Hons) Architecture degree, and gain industry experience.

When you complete your degree course, you will have fulfilled the first part of the three-part process to become a registered architect in the UK.

On our BA (Hons) route, you'll study Level 4, 5 and 6 modules over three years in Chelmsford. You have the option to take a foundation (Level 3) course at ARU College in Cambridge for a year before starting the main part of the course.

Studying our MEng (Hons) Civil and Construction Engineering four-year degree course will give you all the technical skills and intellectual know-how to be a civil engineer in a constantly changing world.

At ARU, our Civil and Construction Engineering course focusses on infrastructure engineering and will give you the practical skills and experience needed to work on multimillion pound infrastructure projects. You’ll develop crucial mathematical, technical and design skills that all civil engineers need, while taking a more holistic view of the overall design of a built environment which is resilient to future challenges.
