Our newly redesigned Mechanical Engineering BEng degree course focusses on project based-learning, meaning you’ll apply your theoretical learning from class to a project-based module that runs throughout Year 1. While studying Mechanical Engineering at ARU, you will develop both your academic and practical skills, becoming an analytical and creative problem-solver, exploring how engineering works in the business context, and how to achieve results within financial constraints. Like our Mechanical Engineering BEng course, our MEng is accredited by both the IMechE and IET, meaning it's been approved by a professional body as meeting their level of requirements.

Our new four-year MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course has been created with a focus on project-based learning, allowing you to take your in-class theory and apply it in a hands-on project module that will run throughout the year.

You will study alongside other students in the various areas of mechanical engineering, specialising in additive manufacturing in your final year and in certain modules throughout your course.

By studying our MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course, you will learn through a wide range of lab sessions, exploring manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics, and structural analysis so you can analyse, calculate, model, and experience your proposed concepts. As a part of your project-based learning you will undertake group work where you will be in a team of multi-disciplined students from across the different areas of mechanical engineering. Our MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course leads you through computer based advanced design, simulation and modelling practice in various topics including computational engineering, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and industrial management. You’ll benefit from using our workshop and laboratory facilities including CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centre, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, scanning electronic microscope, Instron bi-axial fatigue-testing machine, tensile-testing machine, material-preparation facilities, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal-generating and testing facilities, wind tunnel, air compressors, steam engine and many more laboratory facilities used during course and in individual and group major projects.

On this course you’ll learn through practice, in our Early Childhood Resource and Research Room and through our optional placement and theoretical modules. Placements are optional and individually tailored to enable you to gain experience in a variety of different types of settings.

Whether you decide to go on placement or not, you’ll have access to additional volunteering and work experience as well as the choice to take part in further professional development training opportunities, enrichment trips, research groups and various early childhood and education events.

Throughout your studies you’ll be taught by experts in the field of early childhood, using a variety of teaching methods and interactive technology to promote learning, including group activities, class debates and discussion, lectures and seminar sessions, as well as independent learning and study expectations.

Students completing an IMechE accredited degree are deemed to have met, part or all, of the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and are in a strong position to move on to achieve professional engineering status after a period of initial professional development in industry. The MSc will meet, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Accredited MSc graduates who also have a BEng (Hons) accredited for CEng will be able to show that they have satisfied the educational base for CEng registration.

It should be noted that graduates from an accredited MSc programme who do not also have an appropriately accredited Honors degree will not be regarded as having the exemplifying qualifications for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council; they will need to have their first qualification individually assessed through the Individual Case Procedure if they wish to progress to CEng.
