Our new four-year MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course has been created with a focus on project-based learning, allowing you to take your in-class theory and apply it in a hands-on project module that will run throughout the year.

You will study alongside other students in the various areas of mechanical engineering, specialising in additive manufacturing in your final year and in certain modules throughout your course.

By studying our MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course, you will learn through a wide range of lab sessions, exploring manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics, and structural analysis so you can analyse, calculate, model, and experience your proposed concepts. As a part of your project-based learning you will undertake group work where you will be in a team of multi-disciplined students from across the different areas of mechanical engineering. This integrated learning will allow you to develop skills that are invaluable to future employers, including analytical and creative problem-solving skills. Our MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course leads you through computer based advanced design, simulation and modelling practice in various topics including computational engineering, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and industrial management. You’ll benefit from using our workshop and laboratory facilities including CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centre, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, scanning electronic microscope, Instron bi-axial fatigue-testing machine, tensile-testing machine, material-preparation facilities, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal-generating and testing facilities, wind tunnel, air compressors, steam engine and many more laboratory facilities used during course and in individual and group major projects.

Our architecture studios are exciting, creative places with industry-standard equipment. Here, our experts will deliver a learner-centred and research-led approach to architecture.

You’ll become skilled in developing design concepts, experimenting with different media, and representing your ideas through drawings, physical and digital models.

But you won’t be restricted to the studio. You’ll go on site visits so you can analyse the language and style of buildings, their construction, and see projects taking shape in real life. Together, we’ll explore building design, ‘buildability’ and sustainability.

There’s also an optional European field trip each year, to cities such as Lisbon, Venice, Rome and Vienna. It’s a great chance to explore how architecture contributes to shaping our urban life.

Your future career is important so you’ll learn about the construction business and project management. We have a network of visiting designers, artists, historians and theorists who deliver workshops, lectures and tutorials. You can also choose to take a placement as part of your BA (Hons) Architecture degree, and gain industry experience.

We make sure your course is relevant to the real world, by helping you to engage ethically, politically, and sustainably with the changing landscape of the built environment, better preparing you for the world of work.

When you complete your degree course, you will have fulfilled the first part of the three-part process to become a registered architect in the UK.

On our BA (Hons) route, you'll study Level 4, 5 and 6 modules over three years in Chelmsford. You have the option to take a foundation (Level 3) course at ARU College in Cambridge for a year before starting the main part of the course.

This Mechanical Engineering MEng course differs from the BEng as it has an increased emphasis on project work. You’ll also undertake an integrated Major Group Project in your final year where you’ll look to solve real-world industrial problems and as a result, benefit from working with potential future employers.

You’ll also take an individual research module in Year 3 to boost your self-managed learning and research skills. As a MEng student you’ll develop valuable commercial skills in areas such as marketing, Intellectual Property, team working dynamics, leadership, as well as engineering project management.
